A Story About Losing Focus Today, Pat Gelsinger stepped down as CEO of Intel. His career is nothing short of fascinating. He started working at Intel at just 18, became a lead architect during the development of the legendary i486, and at 32, he was Intel’s youngest vice president. From 2001 to 2009, he served as CTO, overseeing Intel’s technical direction. Much of what made Intel iconic in the past decade is rooted in his work. After leaving Intel, he spent 10 years at EMC and VMware, only to return in 2021 to save the company. But even then, the market wasn’t optimistic. Since his return, Intel’s stock price has fallen from $65 per share in 2021 to around $20 today. Media often blames NVIDIA, claiming Intel missed the GPU race. While that might hold some truth, I think there’s another key player to consider: AMD. In the 1990s, AMD was a promising competitor, one of several in the x86 processor market. However, Intel dominated, and by 2015, AMD’s stock was trading for less than $2 per share. Fast forward to today, AMD shares are valued at $140 and even reached $200 earlier this year—a staggering 70x growth. Why? AMD identified its target audience—gamers and servers—and focused on them systematically. This wasn’t just about marketing but also about technical solutions. Now, AMD’s consumer processors outperform many of Intel’s recent server chips, and they’re 2x more power-efficient, a critical factor for servers. And here’s the kicker: AMD did all this without obsessing over NVIDIA. After all, every major player has GPUs now. Over the last decade, Intel lost its positioning and its technological edge. Apple adopted a 5nm process for its M1 chips back in 2020 and moved to 3nm with the M3. AMD transitioned to 5nm in 2022. Meanwhile, Intel is still on its 10nm process (roughly equivalent to TSMC’s 7nm) and is only planning to catch up. Smaller nanometer sizes mean more transistors, better performance, and greater energy efficiency. Yet, instead of focusing on the product, Intel has been making headlines about new factories in Germany, Poland, the U.S., and elsewhere. Grand announcements, but is that what their former CTO should have prioritized? It’s a sad story, but history is full of giants that lost their way.

Nvidia earnings report 2 factors struck me clearly - the Hyperscale market is around 45% of the demand for Nvidia GPUs; which means there is a clear 55% market which a number of DC operators are not addressing clearly. - the delay in Blackwell shipments are NOT technical glitches - they are related to production yields. And from Q3 onwards we can see growth in production quarter on quarter! So stay with this stock and it will grow!
