An interview process, by definition, can only cover so much content in a given time period. But decision-making is a topic that, when prioritized, can increase executive job satisfaction down the line. When we compare survey respondents who did have an interview conversation about decision making versus those who did not, we find that those who did are 1.4x more satisfied with their jobs overall. Kingsley Gate sheds light on this often-overlooked skill for HBR.

This week Mikal Ventures brings you a 4-week breakdown of the non-US capital market with an emphasis on the Mikal verticals. The 4-week period ending November 25 saw just over 1,300 new companies added, bringing the total to 112,141 companies included in the non-US Health Tech, Med Tech, AI Tech Fin Tech and Ed Tech verticals. Non-US AI Tech again saw the greatest percentage growth in new companies at 16%, vs. the vertical average of 12% for the period. Non-US HeathTech led the group in transactions. Vision 2030's target to raise female labor force participation from 22 percent to 30 percent by 2030 was successfully met *eight years* in advance of the target date. What's next? Last week, I had the privilege of speaking at the MIT Jameel World Education Lab’s (J-WEL) ongoing series on AI and education. The event, titled "How EdTech Startups Are Leveraging AI for Education," explored the transformative ways AI is reshaping the educational landscape. I was joined by Jean Hammond (Partner and Co-founder of LearnLaunch), Joy Dasgupta (CEO of Gyan AI), William B. Bonvillian, and Megan Mitchell (Moderator).   Here are my 5 key takeaways from the event:   Building Trust is Crucial For AI to gain widespread acceptance among students, parents, and educators, trust is paramount. EdTech companies must build that trust by delivering proven, measurable results. Establishing credibility through rigorous benchmarks, controlled trials, and demonstrated efficacy will be essential in ensuring confidence in AI-driven tools. With the proliferation of AI, the demand for precise, comprehensive impact measurement becomes even more critical.    AI Goes Beyond LLMs While Large Language Models (LLMs) have dominated the conversation around AI, they represent just one piece of the puzzle. For instance, at EnglishHelper, our AI model operates without data-driven training, is fully explainable, and free from bias. Just finished listening to Durreen Shahnaz's book The Defiant Optimist. A great read. In our culture and folks engaged in investing in startups there is this sometime dubious tendency to see entrepreneurs as heroes. I am not one for mythologizing people and certainly not groups of them, for a host of reasons, but also because a part of that tends to normalize and worship the hardships many entrepreneurs, let alone those from underrepresented groups, endure on their journey to success (or failure). But it is true that some entrepreneurs do heroic things. Creating the Women Livelihood Bond (https://wlb.iixglobal.com/) certainly was. I do however find it infuriating that someone like Ms. Shahnaz has to put her entire life and life-savings on the line, because some bankers find her proposition too risky ... as in, they won't take any risk, period. The argument often being something along the lines of the need for the entrepreneur to have "skin in the game". Like having dedicated a good chunk of your life is not enough. Indian entrepreneurship is legendry. The current impetus in start-up businesses is an offshoot of this entrepreneurial legacy. Several public policies in recent times have catalyzed the process of enterprise creation by young leaders. The apex level business leaders also need to support this process for making India a global business hub, wealth creation, and well-being for all its citizens and global stakeholders.
