On Saturday, the Crenshaw Family YMCA Hosted it's 4th Annual Holiday Toy Drive. District 10 Councilwoman Heather Hutt attended to help hand out the 2,000+ toys distributed to the more than 250 families who attended. Did you know that Basketball was invented at the YMCA? In 1891, instructor James Naismith developed the game after the childhood game of "duck on a rock," and the rest is history. Today, over 28 million people play basketball each year and we know a lot of these experiences still first happen at the Y. January 17th we will host our 54th Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Brotherhood Breakfast at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. Last week, the Weingart East Los Angeles YMCA hosted it's 18th annual Toy Giveaway. Over 2,500 families - some waiting for hours in line - attended for toys, groceries, diapers, hot chocolate, and fun! The first 66 families even got to pick a new bike! It's an event the community looks forward to each year and we are so grateful to the volunteers, staff, board members, and sponsors who helped make it happen!
