Liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports played a pivotal role, contributing 9% of total gas usage. Of this, 91% originated from the United States, underscoring Germany's growing reliance on LNG as a strategic alternative to pipeline gas. Germany's significant underground gas storage capacity, the largest in the European Union, along with small domestic fields, helped to balance supply. In the power sector, gross electricity production dropped by 2.4% to 488.5 billion kWh, with renewable energy sources accounting for 58.1% of the total. Liftoff occurred at 5:26 p.m. EST from Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39A, despite challenging weather conditions. The satellites are part of SES's medium Earth orbit (MEO) broadband network, designed to serve millions of users globally. This mission follows earlier launches of O3b mPOWER satellites, which faced power module issues. SES has implemented fixes for future satellites, including operational adjustments and hardware replacements. The Falcon 9 booster, flying its first mission, landed successfully on the droneship Just Read the Instructions, ensuring its potential for reuse. 🌬️ 𝐑𝐖𝐄 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐀𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐓𝐰𝐨 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐎𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐆𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 RWE has successfully secured tenders for two onshore wind projects in Germany, further advancing the country’s energy transition. Together, the projects will add a total capacity of 40 megawatts, providing enough clean electricity to power around 28,500 households annually. The first project, located in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, will introduce four turbines with a capacity of 22.8 MW. The second will expand the existing Bergheim Wiedenfelder Höhe wind farm in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) with three turbines delivering 17.1 MW. The NRW site is notable for its placement on recultivated mining land in the Rhenish lignite region, reflecting RWE’s commitment to sustainable land reuse. Construction on both projects is scheduled to begin by mid-2025, with commissioning expected in the summer of 2026. Beyond clean energy generation, RWE aims to support local communities by voluntarily contributing €0.2 cents per kilowatt hour produced, translating to additional income of up to €190,000 per year for municipalities near the project sites.
