Ahrefs was a leader in everything backlinks-related for years. It's not the case anymore. As of now, they are clear #2 after Semrush. During the last few months, we have run a series of experiments testing every leading SEO tool on the market for: - Backlinks discovery speed. How fast is every SEO tool in finding fresh backlinks? - Backlinks quality. Are the backlinks found live and accurate? - Manipulation resistance of backlinks-related Authority Scores (DR, DA, AS, TF). Is it hard to tamper with the domain authority measured by every tool? Meet the new experiment in this series! Every bar on the graph is one of 107 websites for sale listed on the largest US-based online marketplace - Empire Flippers — Buy, Sell & Invest In Online Businesses. Orange and blue represent the share of backlinks found by Semrush and Ahrefs, respectively. Orange is winning. Key takeaways: - For 107 websites, Semrush found 6,988,254 backlinks, and Ahrefs found 2,428,017. - Semrush found more backlinks for 93 out of 107 websites, winning 86.9% of the time. Ahrefs found more backlinks for 14 out of 107 websites, winning 13% of the time. - Ahrefs has “blind spots” on 4.7% of domains, meaning zero backlinks were found for five domains, while Semrush found at least a few for all domains. The data clearly shows that Semrush is now leading this race. More details are in a new article on my blog.
