Closing our 2024 expansion out with a bang, today we've launched our Montana telehealth clinic for opioid and alcohol use disorders. According to the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services, opioid overdoses in the state have more than doubled from 2014-2023. Additionally, Montana reports a binge drinking rate 7% higher than the national average. Via our app-based programs, residents all over Montana can now receive evidence-based care as soon as they're ready. Residents of Montana can receive effective medications like buprenorphine and naltrexone, and can connect with licensed clinicians, behavioral health staff, and fellow members of Workit Health via video appointments and online recovery groups. Our providers also offer care for several commonly co-occurring conditions like anxiety, depression, insomnia, and hepatitis C, and prescribe PrEP for HIV. Workit Health’s programs have helped more than 30k members since our founding in 2015, and we're thrilled to bring low-barrier, non-judgmental treatment options to Big Sky Country. https://lnkd.in/g7-VRV8P

Today we're launching our Arizona clinic, with 100% online treatment for opioid and alcohol use disorders via our app-based telehealth program. Medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) is known to be safe and effective, significantly reducing overdose rates and improving outcomes. Despite this, a 2022 "secret shopper" study found that only 36% of Arizonan MOUD providers on government-maintained lists were actually providing medication. This creates a barrier to care that Workit Health’s accessible, online treatment programs can now help to overcome. With the addition of Arizona, Workit Health now serves 8 states with at-home, evidence-based addiction care. Alongside clinical care for opioid and alcohol use disorders, our providers also treat several common co-occurring conditions like anxiety, depression, insomnia, and hepatitis C. We're proud to offer Arizonans with substance use disorders a convenient, judgment-free way to support their recovery. Our online programs include working with licensed clinicians, behavioral health staff, and fellow members of Workit Health via video appointments and online recovery groups. https://lnkd.in/gQW6ptUS

We're excited to announce the launch of our new telehealth outpatient clinic in Oklahoma, providing evidence-based addiction care across the state. According to the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, 16.1% of the state's adult population has a substance use disorder. Of those 700,000 and 950,000 Oklahomans who need treatment and support, few receive it. Workit Health’s programs can be part of the solution to this unmet need. We have reached more than 30k members since our founding in 2015, and we've served Oklahoma’s neighboring state Texas since 2021. We're proud to bring low-barrier, non-judgmental treatment options to the Sooner State. Workit Health’s online addiction treatment programs offer effective, clinical care for opioid and alcohol use, and treat several common co-occurring conditions like anxiety, depression, insomnia, and hepatitis C. Now residents of Oklahoma from the ranches to the City can receive safe and effective medications like buprenorphine and naltrexone, that support their recovery. Our online programs include working with licensed clinicians, behavioral health staff, and fellow members of Workit Health via video appointments and online recovery groups. https://lnkd.in/guxG-jdv

The DEA has announced its third temporary extension of telehealth flexibilities for prescribing controlled medications. What does this mean for the future of telehealth addiction treatment? On our partners blog, The Workit Way, Cynthia Jimes, Ph.D. and Marlene C. Lira discuss the implications and limitations of this temporary extension, which will remain in effect until the end of 2025. As buprenorphine is a crucial part of treatment for many people with opioid use disorder, this rule profoundly affects telehealth addiction treatment providers like Workit Health and our members. “Instead of us asking how effective [non-opioid medications] are at helping relieve symptoms of withdrawal, I recommend we ask why someone would be recommended to receive these or would want to receive these rather than use the medications – buprenorphine or methadone – that effectively treat withdrawal and the underlying brain chemistry present in an opioid use disorder,” Dr. Eileen Barrett, senior medical director and vice president of quality at Workit Health, told Addiction Treatment Business. Dr. Eileen B., Senior Medical Director & VP of Quality at Workit Health, spoke with Behavioral Health Business about medication for opioid use disorder (OUD), and why some providers hesitate to prescribe buprenorphine and methadone. Buprenorphine and methadone have been demonstrated to be the most effective treatment for OUD, but the fact that they are opioid-based gives some providers pause. We love to see providers and journalists speaking out about this stigma that—even within the medical community—can rear its head to keep patients from getting the care they need. We wholeheartedly agree with Dr. Barrett that, "To help more patients with OUD receive gold-standard care, recovery communities should embrace the use of buprenorphine or methadone." https://lnkd.in/g7t-xhd5
