The Women in the Digital Economy Fund is also supporting 4 Kenyan organizations working towards this goal, providing an opportunity to inform policy action with the experience of our grantees: KICTANet Digital Opportunity Trust Kenya MESH Kenya Smart Regional Consultants (SRC). Thank you for the trust and partnership!
I’d like to highlight the significance of yesterdays courtesy call by Ms. Sonia Jorge , Executive Director of the Global Digital Inclusion Partnership (GDIP); Ms. Evelyn Namara Senior Programs Manager at GDIP; and Mr. Zani K., Technical Advisor for Women in the Digital Economy Fund (WiDEF) managed by CARE .This meeting presents a unique opportunity for our Ministry of Information, Communications and The Digital Economy to align with global efforts in digital inclusion and sustainable development. The collaboration between GDIP, CARE, and GSMA Foundation under the WiDEF consortium indicates a shared commitment to driving equitable access to digital technologies and fostering innovation for underserved communities. As a Ministry, engaging with these organizations can support our goals of achieving digital transformation, enhancing connectivity, and empowering marginalized populations through technology. What This Means for the Ministry 1. Advancing Digital Inclusion Initiatives GDIP’s mission aligns closely with our focus on bridging the digital divide. Collaborating with their expertise and global network could enable the development of programs that improve access to digital tools, particularly for women and disadvantaged groups. 2. Leveraging Technical Expertise Through CARE and the WiDEF consortium, there’s an opportunity to tap into advanced technical solutions for expanding connectivity and improving resilience in rural and underserved areas. 3. Policy and Program Synergy This engagement can foster a deeper understanding of global best practices in digital inclusion, allowing us to align our policies with international frameworks and leverage resources for program implementation. 4. Collaboration on GSMA-Led Initiatives With GSMA as part of the WiDEF consortium, we can explore mobile-based innovations that empower communities economically and socially, aligning with our ministry’s agenda of fostering digital entrepreneurship and skills development. Key Focus Areas - Digital Inclusion: For expanding access to underserved populations. - Connectivity and Innovation: Advancing internet penetration and technological innovation. - Gender Equality in ICT: Promoting initiatives that empower women in technology. - Policy Alignment: Harmonizing national policies with global digital strategies. - Private-Public Partnerships: Opportunities for collaborative action with international organizations. I believe this courtesy call is not only an opportunity to strengthen our Ministry’s partnerships but also a strategic move to position Kenya as a leader in digital inclusion efforts across the region. I look forward to exploring how we can work with GDIP, CARE, and GSMA Foundation to achieve our mutual goals. Thank you. #GSMA #Foundation #Digitalinclusion #MICDE #ICT4D #GenderEquality #connextivity
