Consistency in leadership is crucial. John Sumanth, Sean Hannah, Ph.D., and Sherry Moss, three of our amazing Executive Education faculty, explore this topic in their latest research, featured in the Journal of Applied Psychology and Harvard Business Review. This spring, they’ll be leading a series of custom and open-enrollment leadership courses. Their work provides valuable insights into navigating leadership challenges and fostering healthier workplace environments. Keep an eye out for our spring schedule dropping next week, or visit our website for more information. Check out their latest findings on how inconsistent leadership can harm employee well-being and performance: View the post and read the linked article.
What’s worse for employees...A consistently bad boss or one who swings between being abusive and ethical? Surprisingly, our new research—featured in this month’s Journal of Applied Psychology and highlighted in Harvard Business Review—reveals that the inconsistency of a “Jekyll and Hyde” leader is more damaging than sustained bad behavior. 💡 Here’s what we found: • Leaders who oscillate between abusive and ethical behaviors create uncertainty and anxiety that harm employee well-being. • This inconsistency doesn’t just affect those directly targeted. Simply being aware that others are victims of such behavior can drag down individuals' performance. • Alarmingly, the damage caused by inconsistent leadership often outweighs the harm caused by consistently negative leaders. 🧐 What do you think? Does this align with your experience in the workplace?
