Did you know that 60% of deaths (globally!) are attributed to non-communicable diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, chronic respiratory disease and diabetes. But, there’s hope! Four key behaviours – physical inactivity, poor diet, tobacco use and excessive alcohol intake – significantly contribute to these NCDs. The good news is that these lifestyle choices are largely in our control. Enter Vitality … our award-winning behaviour change programme that encourages healthy living by incentivising and rewarding members for improving their behaviour. With proven success across the globe, the Vitality programme has shown positive outcomes for insurers with lower claims, higher margins, positive selection and lower lapses. Let’s see this in action for highly engaged Vitality members: - Vitality UK reported a 51% reduction in in-hospital claims for respiratory disease and - Discovery Limited Vitality (South Africa) reported a 50% reduction in hospital costs for diabetes #LiveLifeWithVitality #NoncommunicableDiseases #HealthyHabits #NCDs

What’s one of the best things you can do for your mental health? Get moving. Mental health is part of a broader health picture. While this can make tackling a range of interrelated behaviours challenging, it also offers a chance to improve overall wellbeing through a holistic approach. Physical activity has consistently shown to help with mental health conditions. People who do a healthy amount of physical activity each week have a 50% lower rate of depression compared to those who don’t. Data from the Vitality Habit Index reveals that people with high levels of physical activity experience a 17% improvement in future psychiatric risk. What’s more, individuals who maintain 3 or more physical activity days per week gain one month of extra sleep in a year relative to individuals without this habit. Adequate sleep is essential for mental wellbeing It’s clear that increasing physical activity leads to better mental health outcomes. The increase doesn’t have to be drastic – every step you take and every move you make contributes to a healthier, more resilient mind. #LiveLifeWithVitality #MentalHealth #PhysicalActivity #HealthyHabits
