📖 Read a new article on an exciting pilot program to improve death notification and registration in Lagos state, Nigeria. The results of the first-of-its-kind intervention program yielded a stunning 173% increase in death notifications in the focus area, and offers key takeaways for future data collection to ensure every death, everywhere, is being counted. Find out more in the Journal of Global Health: https://lnkd.in/gnyd9mcK. 💡The Department of Health (Philippines) continues to champion the use of local data and evidence in policy development at all levels. With support from the Bloomberg Philanthropies #Data4Health Initiative’s #GlobalGrantsProgram, teams representing seven regions across the Philippines presented policy briefs during a recent #DataToPolicy forum. The teams analyzed local data and consulted health care workers and communities to identify innovative solutions to public health challenges affecting their regions, with a number of briefs focused on critical investments in child and adolescent health. Recommendations included: 🍎 Improving childhood nutrition through community support groups to combat stunting in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao 💉 Increasing childhood vaccine availability and coverage in Caraga and Zamboanga Peninsula 💉 Introducing pertussis vaccination of pregnant women to protect newborns at risk from increasing pertussis cases in Davao 💭 Increasing HIV awareness among young key populations in Western Visayas Improving the detection of high-risk pregnancies in Northern Mindanao, where the maternal mortality rate exceeds the national average. 🩺 Routine screening of high-risk populations to detect early cases of the rising tide of chronic kidney disease in Central Visayas

Two physicians and a nurse from Jefferson Health share why they distribute fentanyl test strips to help prevent overdose deaths, and some best practices they’ve learned along the way. They hope that other clinical settings can incorporate fentanyl test strips into care for patients who use drugs after watching this video: https://lnkd.in/etpdM96H

“What we’re doing is capturing data to measure and validate the impact of these active travel investments… We're using different sensors and data sources to show not just how many people are walking, wheeling and cycling versus not, but the changes over time.” #Dublin, Ireland has an ambitious target: Reduce traffic by 40% by 2028 and increase walking, cycling and public transportation use. A new project, supported by the Partnership for Healthy Cities, is helping to track the impact of safe and active travel investments. In Lao PDR, we collaborated with the Ministry of Health to conduct a training workshop on noncommunicable disease prevention and management for 25 primary healthcare professionals. #NCDs are a leading cause of death globally, and Lao PDR is no exception. This interactive workshop, held in Vang Vieng, empowered district hospital and health centre staff with the skills to effectively screen, diagnose, counsel, and treat patients with prevalent NCDs like hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Despite causing over 60% of deaths in Lao PDR, NCD awareness remains low, particularly in remote districts. Supported by #SanofiGHU, the NCD program in Lao PDR is delivering essential resources to aid the government in refining treatment and referral guidelines, offering training and educational materials for frontline healthcare workers.
