Demand is growing, but transmission infrastructure is not. Yet another reason to site your load next to generation - something Space Based Solar does very well. #spacesolar #sbsp #solar
The impetus for Virtus Solis is to provide clean, low-cost renewable energy that directly supplants primary energy production for all terrestrial uses and eventually even extra-terrestrial. Fossil fuels power 85% of the world in a non-sustainable fashion. This must change. There are limited options for disruption because terrestrial renewable power is intermittent - it is seldom available when and where needed. Ubiquitous, inexpensive and clean energy are desperately needed. Cleaning up electric power requires replacing the equivalent of more than a million tons of coal use every day for the next 30 years. But even that is not enough. Globally, most of the planet’s population suffers from energy poverty, and access to low cost energy is the greatest lever for universal prosperity. Limitless low-cost energy solves these problems and promotes sustainable growth and harmony. Virtus Solis is the first low-cost space solar power system able to address the entire $8T energy market.

Long distance power transmission via cables continues to be a vexing subject - the DOE gave up on many of the proposed grid infrastructure opportunities due to resistance from land owners. Space Based Solar avoids the need to fight for access to land for transmission. Simple. #sbsp #spacesolar #solar https://lnkd.in/eh_w7t-Q

Data center energy consumption is growing crazily compared to energy generation and other demands. For example, Google's multi year data center energy consumption is one of the fastest increasing energy demands. Other data center giants are growing just as fast. Everything is plotted below on log scales to compare such huge differences in scale and see exponential curves as straight trend lines. #energy #progress #deeptech #hardtech

It's unfortunate that journalists continue to write stories that are silent on (ignorant of) the enormous near-term opportunities for clean, baseload, affordable, globally available energy from Space Based Solar Power. Or we could just put the photovoltaics in space where the sun always shines? #sbsp #spacesolar Full Article: https://lnkd.in/gjM9-ZZv
Another voice advocating for space based solar. The physics were worked out in the 1960's. The engineering was feasible in the 1970's. With the drop in launch costs the economics make it the cleanest firm energy source possible. #space #energy
We appreciate the mention by David Steitz (former NASA’s Deputy Associate Administrator for Technology, Policy and Strategy and Deputy Chief Technologist, retiring in 2022) and agree whole heartedly! #sbsp #spacesolar https://lnkd.in/gu9cz2mr
What do you take away from the below chart? Thunder Said Energy plotted hourly pricing in two ISO grids here in the USA for Q3 of 2024. ERCOT is Texas, and CAISO is California. Note the cost on the y-axis is logarithmic. What this says to me is large intermittent generation penetration drives pricing volatility - with most stable pricing at night with no renewables. The vast majority of renewable projects in these markets are still being financed - most are 30y finance vehicles. So when the price drops below costs (more generation than demand + unable to export), those generation owners are losing money. Energy storage is the big winner, charging when costs are low (or negative!) and selling when high - alongside gas-fired peaking power plants. New build utility scale solar is $45/MWh. Clean firm power is needed to stabilize pricing. Space solar can enter these markets at $40/MWh at 500MW with a path to <$30 at 1500MW of capacity (financed over 20y at 14%). Ask us how. #sbsp #solar #spacesolar
We're on the leader board. Now its time to move upward! #SBSP

At CogX Festival 2023, John Bucknell, CEO & Founder of Virtus Solis Technologies, emphasised the urgency and adaptability of startups in tackling global challenges: “Startups exist because existing systems aren't delivering. We’re motivated to act fast, aiming for results by 2030—not 2050. The world’s free enough for organisations like mine to deliver what customers need and make the world a better place.” Watch the full session to see how innovation drives progress. 👉 https://lnkd.in/e4hYdHkH
With decreases in launch cost and space robotics cost, the economics of space based solar power keep looking better.
The concept of ‘space-based solar power’ (SBSP) is rapidly advancing, with innovative startups leading the charge to harness the sun’s energy from orbit, and transmit it to Earth.
