Time for another CMO takeover, by me, Renee Dversdal, MD! In the spirit of Thanksgiving I wanted to share a video of #ultrasound #POCUS in use for treatment purposes. The same finding was diagnosed with ultrasound during an educational session! I am so thankful for a passion and career focus that keeps me fulfilled and pushing, and also advances my own health care! When the Family Med doc teaching the shoulder ultrasound elective session used me as a model at my urging (I knew something funky was going on with supraspinatus) the students were able to see pathology real time, and also active range of motion. I made a visit with my PCP who ordered an X-ray (standard of care...for now) and referred me to Sports Med. No surprise, giant chunk of calcium on the X-ray. Conservative measures failed to given any symptom relief at all...thus the barbotage! It's not for everyone, and this is NOT medical advice, but it was too cool to not document and share with y'all! In case the attached video is too long to play or missing audio here's the YouTube on my personal channel: https://lnkd.in/gPrpCK-n Thankful for this community as well. Happy Thanksgiving!

Don’t Toss Your Stethoscope—It’s All About the Patients In our latest Educast series, Dr. Daniel Lichtenstein reminds us that while #ultrasound is a powerful tool, the stethoscope remains vital for patient care. Some conditions, like bronchial obstructions, can't be detected with ultrasound alone. “It’s not about replacing the stethoscope, it’s about expanding our toolkit to give the best care possible," Dr. Lichtenstein shares. Ultimately, it’s always about keeping the patient first. https://lnkd.in/es79ayVu #HealthcareInnovation #Ultrasound #PatientCare

Elevating POCUS Learning: Insights and Recommendations from GME Study A recent comprehensive study across five graduate medical education programs demonstrated that a shared point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) curriculum significantly improves residents' knowledge, confidence, and technical skills. However, despite these gains, many residents still face challenges with image interpretation. The study highlights the need for more than just initial training. Key recommendations include: - Longitudinal Learning: Continuous practice and reinforcement over time to solidify skills. - Clinical Integration: Embedding POCUS seamlessly into everyday clinical workflows. - Mentorship and Collaboration: Fostering cross-specialty support to enhance learning experiences. - Hands-On Practice: Providing ample opportunities for residents to perform and interpret scans in real clinical settings. At Vave, we've seen our GME customers successfully implement these best practices, leveraging our portable ultrasound solutions to facilitate ongoing education and integration into clinical routines. It's inspiring to witness how the combination of advanced technology and dedicated training can elevate patient care. https://lnkd.in/g6GB88fS #MedicalEducation #Ultrasound #HealthcareInnovation

The Rise of Ultrasound in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) Ultrasound technology is becoming increasingly vital in LMICs due to its affordability and portability. Here's how it's making a difference: 1. Growing Utilization: Ultrasound use has surged in LMICs, offering a low-cost and accessible diagnostic option for healthcare systems that face significant resource constraints. 2. Education and Training: Task-shifting programs and training initiatives are empowering midwives, community health workers, and medical students to use ultrasound for better diagnosis and patient care, even in rural settings. 3. Innovative Uses: From screening for diseases like rheumatic heart disease to assessing dengue fever severity, ultrasound’s novel applications are helping tackle complex healthcare challenges in low-resource environments. As portable, handheld devices become more widespread, we’re seeing a true revolution in how healthcare is delivered—making it easier to bring diagnostic tools directly to the point of care. https://lnkd.in/gmeGyY8t #GlobalHealth #UltrasoundInnovation #POCUS #HealthcareAccess #MedicalEducation #LMIC

Addressing Maternal Health Gaps with Portable Ultrasound Technology. The article highlights a critical issue faced by many expectant mothers, not only in Uganda but across East Africa: without access to ultrasound scans, healthcare providers rely on guesswork to determine Estimated Delivery Dates (EDD) and monitor fetal health. This lack of reliable diagnostic tools significantly increases risks for mothers and babies in underserved regions. Thankfully, advancements in portable ultrasound technology are beginning to bridge this gap. Affordable, handheld devices now allow healthcare professionals to deliver accurate prenatal care in even the most remote locations. At Vave, we are working to bring this change to life. Through our partnership with the Inteleos Foundation in Kenya, we’re striving to ensure that more communities gain access to the essential tools needed for safer pregnancies and improved maternal health outcomes. https://lnkd.in/dkcSUhTb #MaternalHealth #PortableUltrasound #HealthcareInnovation #PrenatalCare #POCUS #GlobalHealth #InteleosFoundation
