Vast Unveils Final Design for Haven-1, the World’s First Commercial Space Station We’re excited to introduce the final design for Haven-1, a groundbreaking space station that sets a new standard for human-centric design, comfort, and productivity in space. Vast announced today a deal with SpaceX to launch two human spaceflight missions to the International Space Station aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 and Dragon spacecraft. Pending selection, these missions would serve NASA’s private astronaut mission (PAM) and mark a key milestone in Vast’s journey to advance human spaceflight and expand opportunities for private and global space agency collaboration. https://lnkd.in/g_DCc2wW

Haven-1 is equipped with 8 of these specialized trash tanks, each holding up to 5 days of wet waste for a crew of 4. Once full, the tanks are sealed and vented to vacuum to prevent odor build-up.

We’re putting the final touches on our new test stand in Mojave. This setup is designed to simulate the loads and internal pressures Haven-1’s primary structure will experience during ascent and on-orbit operations. By replicating flight conditions, we’ll collect critical strain and deflection data throughout the testing process.

Haven-1’s primary structure qualification article has officially completed its final weld. The article is now ready for painting, window, and hatch integration before being shipped for pressure and load testing at our Mojave, CA test site.

Micrometeoroids and Orbital Debris (MMOD) flying at hypervelocity speeds in space can pose a threat to spacecraft. For Haven-1, we are building a shield that will cover the entire station to protect against these impacts. Here, our Senior Mechanical Engineer, Michelle Carlomusto, is installing the outer aluminum bumper layer of our shield. Behind that, there is a composite middle layer and then the pressure hull. Together, this shield can stop a 1/4" aluminum projectile at 6.5 kilometers per second.
