We have great kids in Utica Community Schools who demonstrate kindness and respect through the relationships they form in our schools. Throughout the summer, Crissman third grader Addison Verscheure watched crews rebuilding the parking lot at her school. This was an ambitious task in a short time frame, and our construction teams and auxiliary services department did tremendous work to navigate mother nature and get the site ready for use by families and staff. The week before school started, Addison noticed that the crews were working extra-long days to make sure that the lot could used on opening day. She decided then to do something remarkable that is a positive message to all of us about grace, appreciation and kindness. It is this small act that makes her a UCS champion.

The family tradition of working in Utica Community Schools continued on for the Suggs and LaPorte families as Maia Suggs and Emma LaPorte worked together this summer in the SACC program. The connection between the two families began with Judy Suggs and Mary LaPorte who worked together in UCS before their sons, Brad Suggs and Brian LaPorte, began working in the school district together.
