I recently ran a guest lecture at Stanford University for their MBA class. Unsurprisingly, in the heart of Silicon Valley, the most debated topic was #AI. One key insight I shared was that AI isn’t just a tech trend. Its impact on industries, opportunities, and value creation will be monumental. In November alone, global VC funding peaked at $14 billion, with over half going to AI — a clear signal that businesses failing to harness AI will become irrelevant. Interesting fact: Stanford alumni have founded over 39,000 companies, including brands like Google and Netflix, that generate $2.7 trillion annually—equivalent to the 10th largest economy in the world. In the last five years, Stanford students have raised an impressive $1.4 billion in capital. Students were eager to hear how we approach AI at Insider. Here were some of the best takeaways and reflections: - Many commentators and press are focusing on how AI will drive incremental improvements. But, AI’s impact will be much greater than most are currently reporting. We are on the brink of an AI era that will truly reinvent the MarTech industry. - I shared the realities of being a marketer—the fatigue, constraints, and lack of resources. I explained why the potential of #GenAI finally ends a prolonged era of scarcity in the industry, enabling teams to tap into endless abundance by multiplying their resources, removing guesswork, automating repetitive work, and increasing time for knowledge and decision-making. - Marketing and Customer Experience professionals are exhausted from managing multiple vendors and switching tech every 2-3 years. It is impossible to deliver an experience that is sustainable, stable and gives consumers clarity without the technology to underpin that. At Insider, we solve for that, not only in our technological advancements but in our entire approach, from onboarding to support and account management. - Some students wanted to know more about how we set our AI roadmap. I explained that everything we do, test, and build starts with our mission to deliver more customer value. By focusing on long-term collaboration, our roadmap is set to help our customers build deeper trust, loyalty, and growth. - I also debunked myths about conversational AI and the role of “Co-Pilot” tools. We are investing in Sirius AI™ Co-Pilot, and channels like WhatsApp, App Chat, SMS, and Bots to lead the next generation of customer experiences. As one student noted, Stanford’s MBA motto is: “Change lives, change organizations, change the world.” I can’t think of a more fitting motto for AI.
