As the representative of the UN Secretary-General and the highest-ranking official of the UN Development System in Uganda, Mr. Zulu will lead and coordinate the UN's operational activities for development, fostering partnerships and driving progress for a better future for all. International Migrants Day commemorated United Nations Resident Coordinator in Uganda, Mr. Leonard Zulu, participated in the commemoration of International Migrants Day at Golf Gourse Hotel, Kampala on 18 December 2024. The commemoration was organised by the UN Migration Agency, IOM. In his speech, Mr. Zulu noted that migrants are vibrant carriers of expertise, cultures, energies, and contributions that weave into the rich tapestry of sustainable development in every nation. "At the United Nations we acknowledge the powerful force of regular pathways for safe, orderly, and responsible migration as a catalyser for development," he said. "New, stronger, and inclusive partnerships are needed at the national, regional, and international levels, to ensure that all stakeholders involved with migration – and with migrants – are included," he added. Earlier today, the Spotlight Initiative 2.0 Joint Programme held its second Oversight Committee meeting in Kampala. The meeting brought together the UN family, development partners—including the European Union and the Royal Netherlands Embassy—Government of Uganda representatives, and civil society organizations. In his remarks, UN Resident Coordinator Leonard Zulu warmly welcomed the Royal Netherlands Embassy as a new development partner, joining hands with the European Union Delegation to support the Initiative. The meeting also introduced the Uganda Civil Society National Reference Group (NRG) to the Spotlight family, recognizing their critical role in advocacy to end violence against women and girls.
