🌊✨ The fifth Regional Workshop on the #BBNJ Agreement concluded successfully in Rabat, Morocco. Hosted by the Government of Morocco and co-funded by the European Union, the Workshop provided an opportunity for 120+ representatives from States of the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts of Africa, including landlocked States, key regional and global organizations and other relevant stakeholders to enhance their understanding of the Agreement in preparation for its entry into force and implementation.

🌊✨ The Division successfully kicked off its fifth Regional Workshop on the #BBNJ Agreement today in Rabat, Morocco, hosted by the Government of Morocco and co-funded by the European Union. The Workshop brings together over 120 representatives of States of the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts of Africa, including landlocked States, relevant global, regional and subregional organizations and civil society. We look forward to continued dialogue over the next 4 days, as we work together to promote a better understanding of the Agreement and prepare for its entry into force.

From 13-19 November 2024 the Group of Experts for the third cycle of the Regular Process met at United Nations University in Tokyo to review the zero drafts of chapters of the third World Ocean Assessment (WOA III). The WOA III is one of the outputs of the third cycle of the Regular Process for Global Reporting and Assessment of the States of the Marine Environment, including Socioeconomic Aspects. On 12 and 13 November, the Division hosted representatives from The Nippon Foundation for the selection of the 2025 cohort of UNNF Fellows. The meeting also provided an opportunity for The Nippon Foundation to engage with our current Strategic Needs and SIDS Fellows. It was also an occasion to reflect on the lasting impact of the 20-year collaboration between the UN and the Foundation, and to explore strategies to further strengthen future efforts.

From 6-24 Oct 2024, DOALOS was back in Riyadh to implement its training programme in ocean affairs and the law of the sea for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, upon the request by and with the support of the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information of the Kingdom and with the assistance of UNDP Saudi Arabia. 🌐 The webinar "Leveraging the UN Fish Stocks Agreement for Sustainable Fisheries Management in the Caribbean Region" was organized by CRFM and DOALOS to share relevant information on the United Nations Fish Stocks Agreement in the Caribbean. The session provided an overview of the Agreement, the important fisheries in the region and the experiences of States Parties and regional fishery bodies, including CRFM, in implementing the Agreement 🔏. It also highlighted the challenges and opportunities for CRFM Member States in implementing the Agreement. Finally, attention was drawn to the "Project of Assistance to Strengthen Participation in and Implementation of the UNFSA", funded by the European Union, as a vehicle for strengthening awareness, understanding, participation and implementation of the Agreement.
