Membranes will either last 10 years or 10 hours, depending on the pre-treatment. That’s why UGS focuses on it. For landfill gas upgrading, we address moisture, VOCs, oil, and particles using a multi-pronged approach. • Moisture: chill to lower the dew point, condense, then superheat to avoid droplet formation at any point inside or outside the membrane fibers • Volatile organic compounds (VOCs): adsorb contaminants in a multi-sorbent bed tailored to the incoming gas in a regenerable pressure-temperature swing adsorption (PTSA) • Compressor oil: avoid oil carryover by proper pressurization sequence, catch trace oil in lead-lag activated carbon towers (ACT) • Particles: use two-stage filtration to remove carbon dust and other particles down to 0.01 microns.
