For almost 20 years, she’s worked in the fields, enduring not only the physical toll of farm labor but also overcoming personal struggles like mental health issues and an abusive household. Despite a near-death experience after heart surgery, Adela continues to work in the fields, where toxic pesticide exposure is a daily challenge. Her story is part of our #FarmWorkerVoices docuseries, where we highlight the experiences of farm workers who are on the frontlines of climate change, facing extreme heat, pesticide exposure, and countless other hardships.
