This quarter, our Center's faculty director, Professor Magali (Maggie) Delmas, led a new course "Climate Analytics and Strategy", exploring the topics of climate disclosures, regulations, and the increasing needs as well as business opportunities across industries. The discussions featured several expert guest speakers as well as case studies, including the Open for Good Initiative. We'd like to thank the amazing guest speakers for coming to share their valuable perspectives and relevant experience with our students: Anna Brockway, Marisa Hamsik, Nurit Katz, David Ross, Mike Wallace, Eric Walli and James Reeves. We value your support to inspire next gen leaders! Also adding a few takeaways from Jillian Zhang - FTMBA and EVP of Energy & Cleantech Association at UCLA Anderson School of Management: 💡 Climate disclosures are evolving rapidly, pushing businesses to measure emissions accurately. This creates a growing demand for user-friendly reporting tools and climate-savvy professionals to bring businesses into compliance with these regulations. 💡 Climate challenges are driving massive business opportunities across industries - from reimagining supply chains to pivoting strategies and bringing innovative solutions to market. Thrilled to see these important topics included in MBA curriculum! #ClimateStrategy #ClimateDisclosures #GHGAccounting #WhyAnderson

UCLA Anderson Center for Impact reposted this
That's a wrap on the 20th Annual Net Impact Consulting Challenge hosted by the UCLA Anderson Center for Impact! 🎉 Throughout the 3 weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, I had the privilege of working with CTI - Child Training Institute at Jewish Family and Children's Services of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties, an incredible nonprofit dedicated to providing continuing education to mental health professionals who work with children. Alongside my talented team of FEMBAs and EMBAs Caitlin Maxwell, Di Chen, Benjie Devera, and Obi Okafor, we tackled critical challenges in marketing strategy for the nonprofit. Here are some of my favorite highlights: ✅Performing market and industry research to identify key market segments ✅Developed a survey for previous and potential customers to perform strategic analysis ✅Provided insights that lead to actionable, cost-effective solutions to expand impact ✅And last but certainly not least, met fellow Anderson students I'd otherwise potentially not get the opportunity to connect with, the JFCS leadership team, and get valuable insight from our mentor for this project, Bryan Carrigan! This experience was not only a fantastic opportunity to delve into impact consulting but also a great chance to make a meaningful impact in the community that JFCS serves. A big thank you to everyone involved in this rewarding journey! 🌍💼 #NetImpact #SocialImpact #UCLAAnderson #Nonprofit #MBA #Consulting #UCLA #ImpactConsulting #NICC2024

Building bridges between classroom and industry professionals in #sustainability, #impact and #climate is part of our mission at the Center for Impact. It's inspiring to see the MBAs in Energy & Cleantech Association at UCLA Anderson School of Management put on such insightful talks with leaders in sustainability! 👏 #whyAnderson
The Energy & Cleantech Association and AnderTech at UCLA Anderson School of Management hosted another Sustainability in Tech fireside chat today with Paull Young, Head of Sustainability at GitHub! After hearing from Sara Neff on Monday about data centers and decarbonizing buildings, Paull brought a different but complementary perspective as someone who has worked in tech for most of his career and somewhat recently shifted to focus on sustainability within tech. Great job moderating Sebastiaan Esselens! I love how close the community is as well - Paull heard Sara speak before and noted this example that struck him then which also struck me today: on a team of 30 sustainability people, 28 were focused on reporting and regulations while only 2 (!!) were focused on the actual climate solutions. I'm taking a Climate Analytics and Strategy class this quarter with Magali (Maggie) Delmas where we have been talking about the climate reporting regulations and challenges. While I absolutely agree that climate disclosures are necessary, I hope we can shift more of our resources soon to actually work on the climate solutions that will make an impact. There is a lot of work to be done yet, and I'm looking forward to what opportunities arise in this ever changing field! Thank you Paull for taking the time to share some of your knowledge and advice with our members during this session!! Special thanks to Tereza Omabuwa for making the connection - ECA is grateful to have the UCLA Anderson Center for Impact on campus as a resource and partner 😊 Also a huge thanks to the ECA and AnderTech team that made sure both our events this week ran smoothly Veronica Macias, Gabriel Alvarez Ortega, Yong-Yi Hu, Josh Rothermel, Rhea Uppal, Bradley Van Patten!

Can a cash-for-clunkers program accelerate aviation decarbonization? Yesterday, Jerry Nickelsburg, Faculty Director of UCLA Anderson Forecast and Adjunct Professor of Economics, addressed this critical question in his presentation as part of the UCLA Anderson Center for Impact #Climate Change Research Seminar Series. The paper, co-authored with @Jan Brueckner and Kahn Matthew, explores how retiring older, less fuel-efficient planes could significantly reduce emissions. By analyzing the social costs of travel and the carbon damages avoided, the research highlighted how innovative policies can drive faster decarbonization in the aviation sector. Key takeaways: ✅ The durability of transportation infrastructure is a key barrier to rapid decarbonization. ✅ Incentivizing early retirement of older planes could significantly reduce carbon emissions. ✅ Programs like this can be cost-effective with payments lower than the forgone carbon damages. This work is a powerful example of environmental economics at work, demonstrating how data-driven policies can tackle climate challenges while aligning economic incentives with sustainability goals. Don’t miss our next seminar on December 9 at 12:00 PM, featuring Stuart A. Gabriel discussing Extreme #Wildfires, Distant #AirPollution, and Household Financial Health. Mark your calendars for another engaging and impactful session! #ClimateChange #Decarbonization #Sustainability #AviationInnovation #EnvironmentalEconomics UCLA Anderson School of Management

Our faculty director, Magali (Maggie) Delmas participated in a panel discussion yesterday, emphasizing the importance of corporate sustainability disclosures in preparation for California's upcoming regulations. Be sure to explore our Open for Good research initiative with our recently released 2024 Transparency Index for deeper insights into corporate accountability: https://lnkd.in/gvSdD5iG Open for Good Initiative #ESG #CorporateSustainability #Accelerate2050
Great discussion today at @Accelerate2050 on California's upcoming corporate #climate disclosure regulations! It was a pleasure to join Tom Soto of Latimer Partners, Mike Wallace from Persefoni AI, and Ross Zelen, Chief Consultant for the California State Senate's Joint Committee on Climate Change Policies. Mandated corporate sustainability disclosure is key to transparency and accountability, and academia can support this journey with research and tools to help companies navigate these new standards. These regulations open exciting opportunities for learning, adaptation, and meaningful change! UCLA Anderson Center for Impact #CorporateSustainability

What a great recap of our recent High Impact Tea event, by Maxwell Bracey ('26)! This time we explored the world of impact investing with Gloria Nelund, Founder of TriLinc Global, LLC, in conversation with Alena Solonina of CurvePoint Capital. Gloria shared her journey from corporate finance to impact investing, debunked the myth that financial returns and social impact can't coexist, and emphasized the power of credit funds in sustaining communities. Invaluable insights and many learning lessons! See photos from the event here: https://lnkd.in/guHNwgUX Stay tuned for more inspiring conversations in our High Impact Tea speaker series! #ImpactInvesting #UCLAAnderson #SocialImpact #Sustainability

The UCLA Anderson Center for Impact's High IMPACT Tea series was a major selling point for me in my decision to attend UCLA Anderson. Last week I attended my first High IMPACT Tea since starting at Anderson and it didn't disappoint! The illuminating session was headlined by TriLinc Global, LLC's trailblazing founder, Gloria Nelund and detailed her journey from a successful career in corporate finance to impact investing. In a conversation with Alena Solonina, Gloria emphasized that 1. Financial returns and positive social impact can coexist, challenging the misconception that one must be sacrificed for the other 2. Leveraging credit funds can be more effective in driving impact when compared to equity due to the fact that lending keeps the bulk of the capital in the communities where the investments are made, creating a sustainable feedback loop. Much appreciated to the Center for Impact for making this event happen. Looking forward to more of these events as I continue on this MBA journey! #ImpactInvesting #SustainableFinance #ESG
