    Yesterday, 25th of October 2024, I had the incredible honor of being part of a historic moment for Zambia’s SME sector as we formalized a strategic partnership between Tusumpule Impact Accelerators and the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises. Surrounded by visionary leaders from Ministry Directors and representatives from UN agencies to senior officials from commercial banks, mobile service providers, and chain stores, we gathered with a shared commitment to strengthen the MSME ecosystem across Zambia. The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) marked the launch of the Support Effort Recognition Matrix (SERM), a tool set to transform how we assess and recognize MSME support. In my remarks, I emphasized that SERM represents not just a tracking mechanism but a pathway to sustainable growth for Zambia’s MSMEs. It’s a new Era for MSME Growth in Zambia. SERM brings a structured, data-driven approach to identifying and rewarding impactful contributions to the MSME sector. By focusing on four core pillars — Financial Support, Technology Transfer, Market Access, and Capacity Building, we’re providing a transparent framework for tracking support efforts, enhancing accountability, and amplifying recognition for effective initiatives. This means that MSMEs in Zambia will receive the targeted support they need to overcome challenges and expand their impact, ultimately contributing to our nation’s economic growth. As I shared in to e event, “Every small business holds the power to shape the future of our economy.” Through SERM, we are laying the groundwork for an ecosystem where MSMEs can flourish and grow sustainably. The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ms. Subeta K. Mutelo, highlighted that this tool would enable us to respond more effectively to the unique needs of MSMEs, ensuring they receive timely and impactful support from all stakeholders.
