Meeting the financial needs of the Tucson community

About us

Tucson Old Pueblo Credit Union was established in 1935 when Fire Captain John “Slatz” Freeman and 19 other men pooled their resources to form Tucson Municipal Employees Federal Credit Union. The first branch was at Fire Station One in downtown Tucson and the hours of operation were whenever there wasn’t a fire. The firefighters invited the police department and all City of Tucson employees to be part of the credit union. Through the years the Credit Union has made changes in both charters and names but throughout it all TOPCU has remained dedicated to our founding members, the City of Tucson employees.

Every day is Earth Day at Tucson Old Pueblo Credit Union (TOPCU), where they have built a robust solar loan program so their members can reduce both annual utility bills and carbon emissions. TOPCU can help members interested in solar loans apply for local incentives that save them money on the purchase of solar panels. Home solar systems can be used to power critical energy services, like air conditioning needed during Arizona’s dangerously hot summer months, while lowering annual electricity bills for TOPCU’s borrowers. TOPCU is poised to leverage Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund Clean Communities Investment Accelerator (CCIA) grant dollars to offer affordable small dollar green loans so that more of its members can go green.
