We train farmers in agroforestry to build vibrant regional economies, thriving food systems, and a healthier planet.
About us
Around the world, modern and industrialized farming practices are destroying the environment—and, at the same time, failing to provide reliable income and nourishment for the farmers we all depend on to survive. At TREES, we recognize that unsustainable land use is the root cause of our most pressing challenges. We confront these challenges by serving the people at the heart of our global food systems: farmers and their families. As a global leader in agroforestry training for over 30 years, TREES provides hands-on, immersive education, skill building, and support, encouraging farmers to work with nature, not against it. Our signature methodology, the Forest Garden Approach, helps farmers transform their land with thousands of fast-growing, ecologically appropriate trees and dozens of other crops, creating new possibilities for themselves and their communities. By embracing sustainable land practices, farmers are reclaiming their agency, breaking the cycles of climate change and generational poverty, and rebuilding our food systems from the ground up.

This year, Trees for the Future has taken root in powerful ways—working across five countries to restore degraded land, boost food security, and fight climate change alongside thousands of farmers. Here are some of our most transformative milestones this year: - 969 new communities joined the movement. - 7,288 farmers graduated from our Forest Garden program. - Honored with the United Nations World Restoration Flagship Award. - Major progress in the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM). But these stats are only part of the story. They represent lives changed, families thriving, and ecosystems revitalized. Farmers like Carolina are proving that with the right tools and knowledge, their land and livelihoods can flourish. At the heart of it all? Relationships. From trust between our team and farmers to the deep connection farmers have with their land. The partnerships with donors, investors, and communities make it all possible. Together, we’re building a sustainable, resilient future we can be proud of, one relationship at a time. Meet Justine from Busia, Uganda. She’s on the cover of this year’s Impact Report (coming tomorrow!) Since joining TREES, she has transformed her life in incredible ways. With a thriving Forest Garden, her family now enjoys healthier meals, and her children are happier than ever. “I used to think a balanced diet was only for the rich, but now I know it’s for knowledgeable farmers,” says Justine. Her garden not only feeds her family but also earns her 120,000 shillings weekly, allowing her to invest in goats for more income and secure a brighter future. Meet Carolina: a 33-year-old single mother who’s transforming lives through her Forest Garden. With over 2,700 trees and a thriving variety of crops, her farm is a lifeline for her family. When she was pregnant with her second child, her husband left to find work and never returned. That's when she joined Trees for the Future's program. "When my husband left, we struggled to find food," she shares. Despite the challenges, Carolina’s determination to provide for her family never wavered. "I no longer worry about food. Everything I need is found on this farm." Her story is one of resilience, hope, and the power of planting a better future. Carolina is the hero of her own story. You can learn more about her and more in our upcoming Annual Impact Report - stay tuned! #treesforthefuture #sustainablefarming
