The Transplantation and Donation Sciences (TaDS), MSBS–PSM Program at The University of Toledo is the only one of its kind in the entire country. This revolutionary program is strategically designed to train qualified individuals in facilitating the entire organ donation process. TaDS is distinctive in that it offers two separate tracks - a full-time, face to face (f2f) track for individuals without an Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) affiliation, and an all-online track for experienced individuals already working in the industry who desire to further enhance their administrative career goals by obtaining a master's degree. The online track offers full-time workers the advantage of completing the degree at their own pace, allowing versatility for active lifestyles. Another unique aspect of the TDS program is the significant amount of industry support from organizations and prominent individuals in the field. This is evident by the abundance of extremely generous scholarships awarded annually and the guest lecturers that come from all over the nation to meet and mentor our students each semester. The TaDS program involves three semesters of study. The first semester is mostly didactic, learning the medical applications of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology. In addition, there is lecture and fieldwork in the various areas of the donation and transplantation field. The second semester focuses on the more specific and in-depth work of a transplant coordinator. There is an on-call element during this semester where the student will accompany a Transplant Coordinator on the job during organ donor cases and other clinical experiences. During this semester, the student will also work with patients and families through a variety of learning experiences. The final semester culminates in the clinical internship experience. If the student is already in a clinical position, their regular work experience will count towards their internship requirements.

We recently had the opportunity to visit Grand Aire, Inc. for a tour and to learn how air transportation assists in the donation and transplantation process. Shout out to Scott Hutchinson for hosting us and the entire team for their strong support of the TaDS program! 💚💙
TaDS Annual Meet and Greet Round Robin was a success! Thank you Indiana Donor Network, Lifebanc, Lifeline of Ohio and Gift of Life Michigan for attending and supporting the students. This in-person event is essential in allowing OPOs to get to know the students, assisting in intern placement and offers the students an opportunity to improve their interview skills. #tadsstrong #beapartofit 💚💙
Thank you, James A. Molnar, MBA for highlighting our esteemed program!
Transplantation and Donation Sciences recently celebrated its 21st Capstone Graduation with the newest alumni. It was a successful event over two days. The Nationwide Organ Recovery Transport Alliance (NORA), one of the event sponsors, generously donated two professional photographers to capture the occasion. Our Transplantation and Donation Sciences, Master of Science in Biomedical Science (MSBS) – Professional Science Master’s (PSM) Program is the only one of its kind in the U.S. It trains individuals to become Procurement Transplant Coordinators (PTCs) through two distinct tracks: a full-time, in-person track for those new to the field and an all-online track for experienced professionals seeking career advancement. The in-person track is completed in under a year, with 100% job placement after clinical internships. The online track offers flexibility for working professionals to complete the degree at their own pace. Weeks 6, 7, and 8 have incorporated so many new experiences and learning opportunities for the TaDS students! Along with continuing weekly anatomy/phys/pathophys discussions lead by Richard Pietroski and Paul Lange, MD, the students began clinical observations in the UTMC SICU, participating in nursing and physician rounds. Matthew Bailey from Donor Network West made several trips to Toledo to instruct and demonstrate the Physical Assessment module. His annual contributions to the program are so valued and prevalent! Recently, first time guest Jill Wills CST, CTP visited and shared her incredible story with the cohort. We look forward to including her again in the future! Additionally, the students were given a tour of the UTMC HLA Lab. This was perfect timing, simultaneous with their Histocompatibility and Allocation lectures. Finally, Michael Varga (c/o 2020) and Emily Feeney (c/o 2024) with Center for Organ Recovery & Education stopped by for the TaDS/CORE Annual Pumpkin Decorating activity. This is always a favorite class bonding exercise and the pumpkins were delivered to Transplant Hospitals in CORE's DSA to help brighten their holiday! ***Look for a separate post to VOTE for your favorite pumpkin! So many new and advancing experiences with even more to come! #tadsstrong #beapartofit 💚💙
