Today is a special day: the Amana Project is official and will strengthen community businesses involved in palm oil #agroforestry and non-timber forest products in the Tomé-açu region, Pará, Brasil. The Amana Project was one of four lighthouses to emerge from a 4-day meeting hosted by Transformational Investing in Food Systems and Metabolic at The Rockefeller Foundation's Bellagio Center in Italy to build systemic initiatives and financial innovations to unlock scale in regenerative agriculture. It's so satisfying see these projects come to fruition. We look forward to ongoing partnership and to seeing what Amana Project does in the coming year. Great to see this piece from SeafoodSource today about work I've been developing with David Bennell and Transformational Investing in Food Systems to explore finance mechanisms in support of regenerative #aquaculture and #mariculture in the United States. We are initially focused on facilitating investment in #seaweed farming in the Pacific Northwest and New England. As David says in the piece, "While there's a lot of capital out here in the world looking for a home and there are a lot of worthy people, companies, smallholders, and small and medium enterprises that need funding, there's a massive gap and lack of connectivity [between them]." We are closing that gap. Last month, Transformational Investing in Food Systems, in partnership with Upwell Solutions, convened a roundtable discussion on the Missing Middle of Blue Food Systems during the Pacific Marine Expo in Seattle, focused on the #finance needs of a burgeoning industry in the northern waters of North America: #seaweed farming. “Investing in Seaweed Aquaculture: Addressing the Missing Middle,” brought together seaweed leaders from across the Pacific Northwest to consider the future of their industry, and particularly how to give #investors greater perspective about the obstacles and opportunities for development of this versatile, quick-growing crop. On December 11th, Transformational Investing in Food Systems and Biovision Foundation will be hosting a virtual meeting of the Investing in #Agroecological Enterprises (AEEs) Working Group of the Community of Practice for Agroecological #Entrepreneurship in East Africa (CoP).  We are building a network of finance providers and financial practitioners who are fostering a shared understanding of and co-creating solutions for increasing #financing of AEEs in East Africa. This meeting will define the Working Groups’ priorities for the coming year and consider topics such as viable models for transition finance for farmers and small and medium enterprises (SMEs), building an investment pipeline, technical assistance and business development support for AEEs, and market building interventions. This Thursday, Dec 5th, Transformational Investing in Food Systems is co-hosting "Unlocking Impact-Linked #Finance for #Nutrition,” with ATNi (Access to Nutrition initiative) and iGravity. The conversation will bring together donors, development finance institutions, agri-food businesses, agri-food funds and technical support providers in sub-Saharan Africa. This gathering offers an opportunity to review a draft Nutrition Impact Investing Framework and discuss how it can support nutrition-sensitive investments at scale in LMICs. Yesterday, Overstory Ventures was honored to co-host a workshop with Transformational Investing in Food Systems with a powerhouse group of 30 leading Upper Midwest farmers, farmer-led organizations, emerging brands, major industry partners and coalitions, agricultural lenders, funders, ecosystem builders, and university partners to develop major regional regenerative transition efforts or "Lighthouse Initiatives" to advance diversified, continuous living cover agriculture in the region. Thank you, David Cooper, for joining and sharing your expertise on innovative financial mechanisms to advance the regenerative transition. A few sections of David's reflections that stood out: "Regenerative transition requires more than just deploying capital. It requires us to reimagine how we fundamentally finance food and agriculture. Traditional capital emphasizes short-term returns and standardized metrics. Regenerative capital systems recognize the time horizons of ecological restoration, flexible structures that account for the complexity of diversified operations, and blended approaches that value multiple forms of return – financial, social, and environmental. Our goal isn't just to design new financial mechanisms – it's to build the collaborative infrastructure needed for a regenerative transition that works for all stakeholders. The future of resilient #agriculture depends on innovative financing. Let's build lighthouse projects that unlock capital and scale hashtag #regenerative solutions."
