Last month South Orange Village officially adopted the Tree Protection Ordinance, drafted by Topology! 👏 Developed as a collaborative effort where Village planning and engineering professionals worked with a volunteer committee that included Village Council and environmental commission members. 🤝 The team reviewed other municipal ordinances, the Village Master Plan, and the State’s model ordinance and composed the Tree Protection Ordinance to faithfully reflect the Village’s unique priorities. As #SouthOrange recognizes that a healthy #treecanopy is vital to the environmental wellbeing and visual character of the Village, this ordinance is intended to prevent the indiscriminate removal and cutting of trees, which in turn would cause increased soil erosion and sedimentation, degradation of water resources, increased heat island effect and pollution, decreased oxygen regeneration, and reduce property values. 🌳 Topology worked with Village professionals and advisory groups to develop the ordinance language. And though many hands touched this important document, we would be remiss if we didn't give a special shout out to South Orange Director of Planning & Zoning Greer Patras, PP, AICP, MCRP. 💚 Greer was intimately involved with drafting this Ordinance during her time with Topology and ultimately during her time with the Village. Although you can't always anticipate the full impact, sometimes the right project at the right time can lead to some unique opportunities. 🌠 In this case, #MStation West, the future home of France-based pharma firm Sanofi's New Jersey HQ will also result in a new chapter for a historic Victorian-era home at the corner of corner of Maple Avenue and DeHart Street in Morristown. Last week the #Morristown Zoning Board unanimously approved plans to convert a mixed-use building at 22 Maple Ave. into four residential units intended to be used by “C-suite executives and other employees of Sanofi.” 🏡 Not only will this renovation preserve the structure’s historical character, it will serve as a beautiful new home for some of the Town's newest residents.
