Very happy to have signed up to Carma | B-Corp this week as Tiny Eco's main tree planting partner 🌳 I've been with Ecologi for many years now (still #12 on their top tree referral list 🙃) but it's time for a little change. What I like about Carma is that they're based up north near me, use the Green Task Force to plant their UK trees and are getting involved in local community initiatives to make a positive difference. I've also recently joined as a regular supporter of Rewilding Britain to help bring back wilder habitats across our lands. I'm a huge admirer of their mission. I've been surprised to find that many people are unfamiliar with what the FSC logos actually mean. Seeing as it's FSC Forest Week and given how often we see these symbols on products we use daily, I thought I'd share some thoughts: 👉 FSC is all about wood-based products. The aim with the certification system is to protect forests and the wildlife within them. FSC is the most credible forest certification system used across the globe. 👉 There are three main FSC labels to look out for: FSC 100%, FSC Mix, and FSC Recycled. FSC 100% and Recycled represent the higher standards. FSC Mix can contain non-certified wood sources. 👉 However, the FSC system is not without its critics. There are concerns about the reliability of third-party auditors and the effectiveness of certifications in tropical regions where deforestation is most severe. For example, in Brazil only 2% of forest is FSC certified. As a consumers, the best option is to choose re-used or recycled materials first. Next is to choose products that come from local sources.
