  • For many, the path to employment isn’t easy. Rejections, setbacks, and months of searching can weigh heavily, making it hard to keep hope alive. But sometimes, with the right support and opportunity, everything can change. Selina Brown, from TRN’s Savannah branch, recently experienced one of these moments—a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. Here’s the story of how she helped Mary, a job seeker who had nearly lost hope, find a fresh start: Mary’s recent journey had been anything but easy. After losing her job over a year ago, she threw herself into the challenging process of job hunting. Over the months, she submitted more than seventy-five applications, hoping for the chance to get back on her feet. But time and time again, the results were disappointing—no callbacks, no interviews, and no progress. Slowly, discouragement crept in, and Mary found herself giving up on the idea of finding a job within her preferred hours of 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday. She had completed an application with TRN’s Savannah branch, but at the time, there wasn’t an assignment available that fit her needs. Still, we didn’t forget about her. For weeks, we left her multiple voicemails about potential opportunities, hoping she might respond. Earlier this week, Mary finally surprised us. She called back, apologizing for the delay and explaining how life had weighed her down. Despite her struggles, there was a renewed spark in her voice as she expressed a strong desire to work again. Meanwhile, on our end, we’d been working with a particularly selective client. For over a month, they reviewed resumes, conducted phone screenings, and repeatedly asked for more candidates, unable to find the right match. When Mary reached out, her warmth and determination immediately stood out, and Selina couldn’t shake the feeling that she might be exactly what this client was looking for. On Tuesday morning, we sent Mary’s resume to the client. By Wednesday, she had completed a phone screening. This morning, she walked into an in-person interview—and by the time she walked out, she had secured the job. When Selina called Mary to share the good news, her reaction was nothing short of unforgettable. She was stunned, her voice trembling with gratitude as she thanked us for believing in her. Her joy was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do: connecting people to opportunities that can change their lives. This season is about giving, and Selina is so grateful to have played a part in gifting Mary something she thought was out of reach—a new job. Her perseverance, coupled with the right opportunity, turned a year of challenges into a season of hope and renewal. #PoweredByPeople
