Does it seem like your work instructions are being ignored? Does process variation contribute to scrap no matter how detailed you make your work instructions? At The Luminous Group, we get to visit many companies and hear what is working and what is not. Lately, what we have seen is that companies have standards (work instructions), but they are not being followed. A common theme in the "ignored" standards is that the communication tool, the work instruction, skips the "why". When people do not understand the value of the work they are doing, variation seems unimportant. A meaningful "why" is key to adherence to standards and reduced process variation. https://loom.ly/9OkOV-k #workinstruction #quality #manufacturing #luminousgroup

Companies that implement these high frequency audits as part of a commitment to quality rather than to meet compliance are likely to get more out of them. One key example: finding continuous improvement opportunities that might otherwise go unnoticed. In this blog, we explore three examples of how plants have used layered process audits (LPAs) to drive continuous improvement. This blog includes practical examples to implement immediately in your plant. https://loom.ly/q6c-QvA #layeredprocessaudit #continuousimprovement #manufacturing #luminousgroup

If you see something on the kitchen floor that doesn't belong there and you didn't drop it, do you ignore it? Probably not, because that's easily a shared household responsibility. Quality also is a shared responsibility. #luminousgroup #quality #manufacturing

When facilitating client workshops on FMEAs this is one of the most common mistakes the Luminous Group sees. #Luminousgroup #FMEA #Risk

Doing anything once is not so hard. You can eventually find time to do it. But Quality has to be part of your mindset -- it's something you make a priority and build it into every decision and every action. #luminousgroup #manufacturing #quality

FMEA can drive your Continuous Improvement efforts by focusing on the Action Priority (AP) Number. First, prioritize based on the Severity of a potential Failure. Then, the next sort should be based on the likelihood of each potential cause mechanism. https://loom.ly/_zYBlyY #FMEA #failuremodeandeffectsanalysis #continuousimprovement #manufacturing #luminousgroup

Is zero defects the right goal? Zero defects is like a mantra in manufacturing. It is beaten into us from every angle, but does it really motivate people? In working with teams, on the manufacturing floor, I find that they tune out when they hear "zero defects". I get more engagement and ownership, when the team sets incremental goals to reduce scrap. It may not be popular to say, but I find that helping people make progress is more effective than preaching perfection. https://loom.ly/2BLoOSQ #luminousgroup #zerodefects #manufacturing
