Environmentalist of the Month - November 2024 “I want to be an example that it’s possible to choose a path in life that is for the betterment of the world. I also want to make the climate space focus more on intersectionality and justice. In the past, the climate movement focused on protecting parks or areas that cage nature. We can’t keep separating ourselves from nature.” - Xiye Bastida Through her Otomi roots, Xiye champions Indigenous wisdom and principles as a solution for the climate crisis. She was an organizer with Fridays For Future and is the co-founder and Executive Director of the Re-Earth Initiative an international youth-led organization that supports frontline youth across 27 countries. Recently, Xiye won the 2024 DVF Leadership Award which will help Re-Earth fund their Re-Granting program to keep supporting climate solutions on the ground. She's also received the 2018 UN Spirit Award and was named TIME100 Next in 2023. In recent months, we've changed the format our our Quarterly Virtual Networking events and continue to receive positive feedback from those who attend. During our meetup today, we worked as a group to brainstorm and design two different marketing campaigns around designing a 'Green Friday' strategy for for a zero-waste grocery store with bulk foods and reusable packaging systems. The evaluation criteria for the campaigns included: -Measuring the environmental impact -Customer engagement -Education value -Sales potential -Social media shareability -And long-term relationship building potential Kristy Black's group's led a discussion about creating a point system for their holiday campaign, where customers could earn points from making purchases or engaging with other like-minded business partners. The aim was to make the idea of a zero-waste grocery store more accessible to new customers, not just those already familiar with the concept. The team also discussed creating a holiday recipe guide, emphasizing the use of reusable containers and composting. A gift guide featuring reusable fabric packaging was also proposed. Julia Freer Goldstein's group suggested a Bingo-style point system, encouraging users to share their progress on social media. The team also discussed the importance of minimizing waste during holiday dinners and encouraging guests to bring reusable containers. Thanks to all of you who joined us today and we look forward to seeing you at our next Networking event in early 2025! #sustainablemarketingstrategy #sustainablemarketing #consciousconsumerism
