We're honored to be included in the Food Planet Prize Longlist with our partner Harvard Law School Food Law and Policy Clinic for The Global Food Donation Policy Atlas project!
It's here! The Food Planet Prize Longlist 2025. After rounds of screening, research, and evaluation of nearly a thousand nominations, our prize team has identified 39 initiatives that stand out from the rest. “We are thrilled by the diversity of geographies and innovations of the initiatives represented,” says Emily Norford, The Food Planet Prize Nominations Manager. This year's longlist contains initiatives from 23 countries across six continents – from Uganda to the UK, China to Colombia. They illustrate how innovations can be technical in nature, but also social or nature-based. They show how impressive ideas can come from high-tech companies and grassroots NGOs. Our longlisted initiatives provide the world with carbon sequestration, improved soil health, clean water, food waste reductions, and many other benefits to the food planet. The Food Planet Prize 2025 longlist is the first major step towards finding this year’s winner. It also presents new, inspiring possibilities for our challenged food systems. “The global food system holds the future of humanity on Earth in its hands”, says Johan Rockström, Co-Chair of the Food Planet Prize and Director of the PIK - Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. In the coming days, we’ll be sharing more about the initiatives, so keep your eyes open! You can also find the full list on our site; see the link in the comments. #FoodPlanetPrize #EnvironmentalAward #GreenProjects #PeopleAndPlanet #ClimateResilience #FoodSystems #SustainableFoodSystems

Today, not a single country in Southeast Asia has committed to reducing food loss and waste as part of its National Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement yet. As leaders from Southeast Asia head to Baku, Azerbaijan for #COP29, GFN's Hazel Quek Xue Fang stresses the opportunity to put plans in place and act to prevent food waste. We’re taking #ActionOnFood at COP29! Climate change is forcing people from their homes, bringing extreme poverty to already vulnerable communities, and becoming a major driver of food insecurity. At the same time, our food systems account for one-third of global emissions. Reducing food loss and waste can help. That’s why at #COP29, we’re teaming up with WRAP, ReFED, FareShare UK, and Global Methane Hub to host a series of critical conversations on strategies and solutions to reduce food loss and waste. Check out the schedule of events and let us know if you’ll be there! https://lnkd.in/e-Ac-fXi #FLWatCOP29 Action On Food

The Global FoodBanking Network reposted this
Simply put, we couldn’t do what we do at The Global FoodBanking Network without our community of partners. Behind the scenes, they are helping our Network reach millions of people facing food insecurity every day as well as reduce the corrosive environmental impacts of food loss and waste That’s why I’m so glad to share this conversation with Kathleen Smith Ruhland from DLA Piper, a longtime GFN partner that helps us navigate the challenges of scaling community-led food banks on a global scale. Take a listen to our conversation on DLA Piper’s podcast, “Beyond the Curve.”
In the latest episode of Beyond the Curve, Kathleen Smith Ruhland and Lisa Moon, President and CEO of The Global FoodBanking Network, discuss the nonprofit’s work combating #foodinsecurity around the world, challenges #foodbanks face, and how they support the world’s most vulnerable communities.
