🎊 Congratulations to Estelle and Megan at Norwich High School for Girls GDST on winning the #AthertonAward for entrepreneurial thinking. Estelle and Megan's award entry was a programme to introduce students to different engineering disciplines. They were motivated by the fact that engineering remains a largely male-dominated industry and it can be challenging for girls and women to access the same career opportunities that men can 💪🏼 #womenentrepreneurs #youngentrepreneurs #womeninSTEM

🏆 Congratulations to Riya S for winning The Atherton Award! 🎉 Amber Atherton is an investor, a serial entrepreneur, an author and a former star of reality TV show Made in Chelsea. The Atherton Award in an annual prize given to any pupil who displays entrepreneurial initiative. The winner of each school receives a trophy, £500 and a day of mentoring with Amber Atherton’s team. Croydon High School had some fantastic entries this year – from a fully operational revision resource on YouTube to a Maths App. Year 9 pupil, Riya, won this year’s award showing amazing entrepreneurial spirit by designing a bottle condensing water vapour into clean drinking water. Below are words on behalf of Amber Atherton: “Today I am delighted to recognise Riya S as the winner of The Atherton Award. Wanting to ensure the human right of clean drinking water for all, she designed a water-generating bottle that condenses water vapour into clean water. To understand more behind this process, she took two STEM courses with the Open University to learn about the engineering behind the product. With this start-up capital and in our mentoring sessions I’m excited to see it go through product testing to get to a design that is ready to patent. Congratulations Riya and congratulations to everyone who entered. Croydon High girls have entrepreneurial spirit in bucket loads and I can’t wait to watch, and maybe one day invest, in the incredible businesses you might build!” https://buff.ly/4d6BS7j GDST (The Girls' Day School Trust) #AspireWithoutLimits #EveryGirlEveryDay #TheAthertonAward #WomeninSTEM

Another Atherton Award winner from Royal High Bath, GDST, Sophie, was recognised for setting up the Green Garage, a center where the local community could refill cleaning products, to reduce packaging waste and emissions. We admired her courage in turning the idea into a reality: buying cleaning products in bulk, creating a logo, flyers and selling to the public out of her garage. In mentoring sessions since, we have been discussing how to market and scale the idea beyond her local neighbourhood.
