Goal setting and reflection can be game-changers in the classroom! 🎯 Here’s how I structure it: 📌 Start of Class (5 Minutes): Students check in by writing the date, sharing how they feel, and setting two goals—one academic and one optional. They also evaluate if they have what they need to succeed and brainstorm how to get what’s missing. 📌 End of Class/Week Reflection: At the end of each week, students reflect on whether they achieved their goals. If they didn’t, they consider what held them back and how to improve. This process keeps students intentional and gives them a sense of purpose in every lesson. I've found that the daily check-ins and weekly reflections build habits of accountability and personal growth. How do you incorporate goal setting and reflection with your students? Teacher Tip Tuesday – Sensitivity Matters After the Break As we transition back into the classroom after Thanksgiving break, it’s important to remember that not all students return refreshed and happy. For some, breaks from school bring challenges—family struggles, isolation, or even hunger. Instead of assuming every student had a joyful holiday, let’s lead with empathy. Simple changes, like avoiding questions such as “What did you get for Christmas?” can make a big difference. Instead, focus on fostering a supportive and inclusive classroom where students feel safe, valued, and understood. For many students, school is their sanctuary—the place where they feel happiest and most secure.
