What an exciting and fruitful year for the T-REX Project! It was filled with continuous work on shaping the blueprint for scaling textile-to-textile in the EU and numerous interactions with the industry and the public – from citizen engagement activities in Finland, France and the Netherlands, to speaking engagements at industry events across Europe, topped with a policy roundtable on ESPR in Brussels. Thank you for following our journey this year. We look forward to sharing more learnings soon, as the project approaches conclusion in May 2025. Stay tuned!

Textile Manufacturing
Creating a circular system for post-consumer textile waste. Funded by Horizon Europe 🇪🇺
About us
The T-REX Project brings together 12 major players from across the entire value chain to create a harmonised EU blueprint and business opportunities for closed loop sorting, and recycling of household textile waste. Transforming end-of-use textiles, from waste, into a desired feedstock, and a commodity for new business models that can be adopted at scale.

Chosen for Redesign: Here's a great example of empowering citizens with tools to stimulate circular consumption ⤵️ Our consortium partner Aalto University collaborated with Emmy, Finland's largest second hand clothing online store, to find out what challenges and opportunities there are in the reuse and redesign of clothes, and whether these techniques can affect the value of second hand garments. In this collaboration, master's students in fashion and textiles used end-of-use clothing as material to create redesigned pieces. A collection was created challenging traditional design methods, the process also informed a set of DYI consumer tools, helping to demonstrate the potential for upcycling clothing. How can the textile industry reimagine growth from a materials perspective? In the latest report, Textile Exchange "advocates for phasing out virgin fossil-based synthetics as rapidly as possible, with the aim of replacing them with materials sourced from textile-to-textile recycling systems or from sustainably-sourced renewable resources." Head to the link in the post to access the report:
Introducing the Reimagining Growth Landscape Analysis 📈 Our latest report presents a vision of what the fashion, apparel, and textile industry needs to work toward to transform its current business model in alignment with “regenerative economy” and “post-growth” principles. Central to this is a complete reimagining of value creation. The report calls for business success to be redefined from that based on exponential increases in production and consumption volumes, toward sustainable and ethical practices, prioritizing well-being and prosperity for all stakeholder groups over the long term. Highlights from Paris 📸 After 5 weeks, our circular fashion awareness campaign hosted in collaboration with Fédération de la Mode Circulaire, and curated by Aalto University, has successfully concluded. Participants learned about the environmental impact of the textile industry along with how to extend the life of clothes they no longer wear. Some of the popular activities included a clothing repair workshop, a swapping event, and a visit to a sorting centre. Citizen engagement as a means to empower the shift towards a more circular textile industry is one of the focal areas of the T-REX Project.
