We’re thrilled to announce that Susteon, our grantee, has received a $5M award from ARPA-E’s GREENWELLS program! With an initial ACT grant of $400,000 in 2023, Susteon achieved proof-of-concept for a groundbreaking technology to produce sustainable aviation fuels. They’ve developed a revolutionary process to convert carbon dioxide into olefins and will now advance to creating kerosene-range hydrocarbons from carbon dioxide, hydrogen, and renewable electricity. Supported by Purdue University and TotalEnergies, this innovation is a major leap forward. CISTAR NSF Engineering Research Center has announced a pivotal partnership with Susteon Inc., focusing on the advancement of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production. The collaboration was recently selected as the recipient of a $5.5 million award from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s Advanced Research Projects Agency–Energy (ARPA-E) as part of the GREENWELLS initiative. The project will focus on developing cutting-edge technologies to produce SAF from light olefin gases, derived from both shale gas hydrocarbon resources and carbon dioxide as a feedstock, using innovative processes developed by CISTAR professors Rajamani Gounder, Rakesh Agrawal and Susteon.
