We're always excited to see a fresh perspective on the work our field folks are doing every day. So excited, in fact, that our Summit in Focus photo contest had an entire category dedicated to it! Congratulations to our “Getting Your Boots Dirty” category winner, Steve F., who submitted this photo of Andrew B. on our CMT/SI team directing a Telehandler operator in lining up lateral load test for a pile. Congratulations to honorable mention, John C., whose photo shows Frankie W. in the midst of a constructed wetland inspection!

A couple of months ago, Summit put out a call to our community for photos – photos of our staff in the field and in the office, having fun, volunteering, working on project sites, and more! Our panel of operations-oriented judges assisted in shaping contest guidelines and assessing the submissions; after much deliberation, we now have winners, and we'd love to share their winning entries with you all! Our first group of winners is from our “Summit Off Duty” category, which showcases our dynamic, fun-loving team out-and-about bonding, volunteering, or out in the community. Congratulations to our category winner, Zack C., pictured volunteering to help install a disc gold course in Henderson, NC! Congratulations also to honorable mention, John C., who submitted this photo of some of our site design folks out at lunch together at the Colonial Inn in Hillsborough, NC!

Larue Weaver has spent 30 years paving the way—literally and figuratively—in the transportation industry. Starting as a Temp Clerk II at NCDOT and rising to Engineering Specialist II, she’s now leading the U-5026/R-5720 Design-Build Project at Summit, a project she previously oversaw at NCDOT. As a trailblazer in a male-dominated field, Larue leads a team of four, tackling daily challenges, ensuring project accuracy, and driving through work zones to oversee progress on erosion control, lighting, and more. Her hands-on leadership and dedication inspire everyone around her to reach new heights.

Summit was out serving hot cocoa to calm pre-race jitters at the Girls on the Run of the Triangle Reindeer Romp 5K in Cary, NC this weekend! This is the second year that our women’s group, WISE, has sponsored the event, and it is exciting to see the joy and sense of accomplishment that is inspired by the Girls on the Run program. Despite a particularly chilly morning for the Triangle, there were still thousands of runners there, and we were happy to provide warm hot cocoa for some extra warmth!

Happy International Volunteer Day! Summit is proud of our team’s efforts to give back through volunteering. The Summit team’s community mentality extends beyond our projects, and we show it every day with initiatives like WISE’s endorsement with Girls on the Run, Summit’s Habitat for Humanity build days, the recent 540 Fest, and employee-driven drives for Western North Carolina. If you’re looking to give back a little extra this holiday season, especially in light of the disaster relief efforts in Western NC, you can connect with resources from the state of North Carolina’s VolunteerNC below. https://buff.ly/3D2su8w https://buff.ly/4fYJI57
