Happy 208th Birthday, Indiana! 🎉 #IDEM celebrated Indiana Statehood Day by educating students about the aquatic macroinvertebrates found in the ecosystems of our beautiful state! Their sensitivity to pollution and environmental changes makes them reliable indicators of water quality. 💧 #StatehoodDay #HappyBirthdayIndiana #Ecosystems #WaterQuality

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development's Adult Education Team manages programs that offer instruction in math, reading, and writing at no cost. These programs help Hoosiers obtain a high school equivalency diploma, pursue higher education, and more. With a presence in all 92 counties of the state, there are more than 250 adult education class locations available and in the last program year, enrollment numbers increased by 11% with over 25,000 students enrolling. The team’s “Programs of Excellence” initiative also earned them national recognition with a State Innovation Award from the Coalition on Adult Basic Education in the spring of 2024. Their work continues to increase access to essential adult education resources across the state and earned them a Governor's Public Service Achievement Award. Congratulations!

When federal funding was significantly reduced after the pandemic, Suzanne Manning was tasked with leading the Appeals team of the Indiana Department of Workforce Development through a transition to the Office of Administrative Law Proceedings. She not only successfully tackled this transition which reduced the budget by $2.2 million and created new opportunities for many employees, but she also supported the team as they worked through a backlog of appeals cases. Her leadership has had a lasting, positive impact on her team and the State and earned her a Governor's Public Service Achievement Award. Congratulations!

Sarah Pierson is in our mentor spotlight today! As a Senior Federal Fiscal Analyst for the Department of Education, her work makes an impact for Hoosiers across the state—including the people she works with. This is what Sarah's nominator had to say about her: "She is always there with a helping hand, she is an absolute joy to be around. Even when she is out of office for the day, she is happy to help anyone." Keep up the great work!

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources One Million Tree Team successfully completed the state’s largest tree planting initiative in nearly a century, planting one million native trees as of the spring of 2024. They saved taxpayers $900,000 by managing the initiative in-house and engaged communities through partnerships with schools and corporations while promoting conservation education. They also inspired a regional initiative to plant 250 million trees across the Great Lakes. Congrats on winning a Governor's Public Service Achievement award for your hard work!

The Indiana Department of Health's Family Health Data and Fatality Prevention Team works to avoid preventable deaths among mothers, infants, and more. With their statewide fatality review teams, they’ve identified prevention opportunities and worked to form new initiatives like the Fetal Infant Mortality Review, which identifies gaps and recommendations to improve health outcomes. Their new Lactation After Loss program also supports grieving families by providing lactation guidance and bereavement kits. Their incredible efforts with this program in 2023-2024 earned them a Governor's Public Service Achievement Award. Well done and congratulations to Linzi Horsley, Ann Marie Neeley, and Cameron Willett, MPH!
