📢 Making Progress in Teacher Recruitment and Retention! State Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver shares encouraging news from the 2024 Educator Supply and Demand Report, highlighting efforts to strengthen South Carolina’s teacher workforce. 📝 Key initiatives include: • Raising the minimum starting salary to $47,000 (with plans to reach $50,000 by 2026). • Extending the salary schedule to 28 years. • Restricting student cell phone use during the school day to improve focus and discipline. Additional strategies include strategic compensation programs, “Grow Your Own” initiatives, and partnerships to recruit and retain high-quality educators. “Our goal is nothing less than a great teacher in every classroom,” said Superintendent Weaver. 🌟Yesterday was an incredible day at the Fall VirtualSC In-Person Collaboration! We gathered with around 65 teachers and staff to celebrate and innovate in online learning. A big shoutout to Sarah Floyd, named VirtualSC’s Teacher of the Year for her outstanding commitment to student success! 🧑🏼🎓 So far this year, VirtualSC has served 32,520 students with 57,896 course enrollments. Earlier today, the SC Department of Education & the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee held a press conference at Pinecrest Elementary to unveil the 2024 School Report Cards. We see progress, with 230 schools receiving an “Excellent” rating! Notably, 54% of 3rd to 8th graders met or exceeded expectations in English Language Arts.
