  • ❄👕 Happy Ugly Sweater Day! 👕❄ This tastefully tacky fashion can be seen on social media at holiday parties all December long. But there can also be a lot of "ugly" content lurking on social media and other open-source platforms. We regularly find evidence of... 👎Offensive or inflammatory opinions and posts. 👟Activities in conflict with statements or claims. 🖐Evidence of inappropriate relationships or contact. So, while you’re rocking your ugly sweater today, remember: even the "ugliest" content has a story to tell—and we’re here to help you find it. #UglySweaterDay #Ugly #SocialMedia

  • Gen AI is making authenticity a difficult metric to measure on social media. But what if you could signal that your image is not altered or generated by AI? Meta is testing tags that mark your images as "No Edit" to add a level of authenticity to the content. Content generated with AI using in-app platforms on social media are already labeled with "AI Info." But this doesn't catch information created outside of the application unless labeled by the poster. What does this mean for social media information collection? It could mean that images and videos that display the "No Edit" tag will be looked at differently when collected for forensic purposes. It could also mean a new wave of more "authentic" content will be trending on social media channels. Either way, social media information will continue to require a high level of scrutiny to determine what is real and true against what is artificial. • A minimum age for social media users is being introduced into legislation in Australia. The bill would ban children 16 and under from using social media platforms shifting accountability away from parents and children to the social media platforms. The bill calls for age restrictions on certain social media platforms, namely Instagram, TikTok, X, and Snapchat. Should the bill pass, these platforms would be required to implement user age verification measures that not only prevent children from accessing the data but also keep evolving these tools and practices to meet the changes in social media and internet landscapes. Do you think similar bills will be considered in the United States? Let us know in the comments. And check out the article linked below, too. #SocialMedia

  • How people communicate on social media depends on the platform. When it comes to sharing content, certain platforms are designed to host and share different styles of content. With different content also comes different syntax, point of view, and voice. So when it comes to finding information on open sources like social media pages, it's important to know what you are likely to find and how users communicate or use that platform. Facebook might be a good place to dig deeper into historial posts since the platform has been active since 2004. YouTube and TikTok are almost exclusively used for video content. Pinterest helps users categorize and organize content of interest into boards which could include links, images, videos, and text. To simplify it, we created our own version of what you might find on some of the most popular social media platforms using coffee. ☕ Are we missing any? Let us know in the comments! #Coffee #SocialMedia
