Meet the Team Monday: Say hello to Moriah! This week, we're excited to introduce Moriah, our Staff Accountant who officially joined SMB CPAs in June 2024 after interning with us throughout 2023. From intern to full-time, she’s been an amazing addition to our team, bringing dedication and a passion for helping others. 🔹 What inspired you to pursue a career in accounting/finance?

Taking her pup wherever she can get away with it. Moriah loves bringing him on walks at Nathanael Greene Park or to the C-Street Market on Saturdays. 🔹 What’s a hidden talent, hobby, or fact about you that might surprise people?
"I worked in orthodontics for 4 years and still know way too much about teeth!" 🔹 Favorite local SGF spot?
"I can’t hype up That Lebanese Place on Commercial Street enough." Moriah graduated from Missouri State University in 2024, magna cum laude, with a degree in Accounting. We’re lucky to have her on our team—she’s already making a big impact!

Meet the Team Monday: Catherine Sanders! This week, we’re excited to introduce Catherine, our Firm Administrator, who has been with SMB CPAs from the very beginning. Catherine plays a vital role in keeping everything running smoothly, making sure all the pieces fit together seamlessly. Her passion for making a positive impact and her unique skills are essential to our firm, especially when it comes to supporting our clients. 🔹 What’s the most rewarding part of your job? I love hearing positive feedback from our clients about the work we do. It’s rewarding to know that we’re making a difference for them! 🔹 What’s a piece of advice that’s helped you in your career? "We are never given more than we can handle." It’s a good reminder when things get busy or challenging. 🔹 What’s your go-to hobby when you’re not working? Traveling and spending time with my family and our dogs—any time we can be together outdoors is the best. 🔹 What’s a hidden talent or surprising fact about you? I have two college degrees, one in Business Marketing and the other in Nursing! 🔹 Favorite local SGF spot? I love exploring the Greenways Trails! It’s the perfect way to stay active with running or biking and enjoy nature. We’re lucky to have Catherine’s expertise and energy on our team! It's 'Meet the Team' Monday! Today, we're introducing you to Nick, one of our talented staff accountants at SMB CPAs! Nick’s journey into accounting was inspired by his mom, who runs her own accounting company. From a young age, he’s had a passion for solving complex problems, and he finds the most rewarding part of his job is when a tricky problem finally clicks into place. 💡 Nick’s advice? "Work hard and keep going, even when things seem tough." When he’s not crunching numbers, you’ll likely find Nick reading, playing video games, or practicing his hidden talent—he’s a black belt in Tae Kwon Do! 🥋 His favorite local Springfield spot? The nostalgic vibes at 1984, a retro arcade downtown. With an undergraduate degree in Accounting & International Business and an MBA with an emphasis in Accounting, Nick has been a key part of the SMB team since November 2021. We’re lucky to have him!

It's Meet the Team Monday! We’re excited to introduce Sam Bass, who joined SMB CPAs as a Staff Accountant in July! With a Master of Accountancy from Missouri State University and a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Oklahoma State University (just earned in 2024!), Sam brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team. What got him into Accounting? "I took an Accounting class in high school and fell in love with how debits and credits work. The way everything balances out was just so cool to me!" Favorite quotes to live by? While he aims to live by "Don’t sweat the small stuff and it’s all small stuff" by Richard Carlson, Sam admits he sometimes follows, "When in doubt, use brute force" by Ken Thompson. And for fun? "If wishes were horses, we’d all be eatin’ steak!" – Jayne Cobb Fun fact: Sam is an avid gamer! While he mostly plays PC games daily, he’s always up for a good board, card, or pub game too. Why SMB? "I’m excited to be part of such a kind, knowledgeable, and helpful team. After teaching for 15 years, I’m thrilled to apply my experience in a real-world setting!" Oh, and one more fun tidbit—Sam became the youngest Eagle Scout in Springfield in 1996, at just over 13 years old! (the average age is around 17 years old) Help us welcome Sam to the team! 🎉
