Exploring Red Hat’s approach to #opensource + LLMs 🤖 Join #theCUBE at #KubeCon NA, where we’re speaking with Sally OMalley, principal software engineer at Red Hat, about leveraging open source for supporting #Kubernetes and #LLM deployment. “One of the projects we've been collaborating with IBM on is #InstructLab. It is an open source project where you can take a small, 7 or 8-billion parameter LLM and bring your own data to it easily. You don't need to be an expert or hand your data off to a team of data scientists. Discussing the latest in Red Hat’s OpenShift virtualization platform 🎩 During live coverage at At #KubeCon NA, #theCUBE hears from Ju Lim, senior manager of OpenShift product management and distinguished engineer at Red Hat, about new innovations in their OpenShift virtualization platforms and their benefits for customers. “We have added a whole bunch of features for OpenShift virtualization like memory over subscriptions, so you can have higher density for your workloads or VM workloads in particular. We also have memory hotplugs, so you can have vertical scaling. We've also worked on the migration front around static IP preservation and drive letters. So, if you're migrating from Windows, it's a great onboarding to get onto OpenShift virtualization. “Even from a storage perspective, we've done things like storage and live migration for moving between storage classes. Exploring Red Hat’s latest projects for Kubernetes support 🦾 We’re live at #KubeCon! Dig into Red Hat’s latest with projects #Podman, #Buildah, and #Skopeo with Mark Russell, principal product manager at Red Hat, and Stevan Le Meur, principal product manager of developer tools at Red Hat, as they join #theCUBE at #KubeCon NA. “Podman is an interactive container engine with the ability to run #containers without any root or elevated privileges. My favorite thing is a feature called quadlet, which allows you to take pods and containers and turn them into system services with a dead simple text file that you could just copy from machine to machine. Buildah is a tool that focuses on building container images. It's very suitable to containerized pipelines, and Skopeo, which is a bit of a Swiss army tool that works with container images and remote registries,” Russell shares. Le Meur joins the conversation, saying, “With Podman desktop, we built on top to provide a nice user interface to work both with containers and Kubernetes. It’s a desktop application that runs on Mac. It's for application developers and it abstracts away all the configuration and setup of different tools needed to work with these technologies. Smaller language models vs larger models: How Red Hat is simplifying things with OpenShift AI 🚀 In this #KubeCon NA conversation with Jeremy Eder, distinguished engineer and chief AI/ML platform strategist at Red Hat, #theCUBE digs into how OpenShift AI fulfills customer’s demand for LLMs in collaboration with parent company IBM. “Customers are looking for the foundation models to provide them with the basic knowledge, arithmetic, how to speak certain languages, and then want to operate on their own proprietary data in a very controlled fashion. That's where the small language models come in. They obviously have a cost impact. IBM shipped a bunch of smaller models called Granite 3.0, and they're down to a 2.6 billion parameter model,” Eder shares. “The question is, what use cases might smaller models be useful for and in what scenarios do you need larger models? One thing we're adding to OpenShift AI is distributed inferencing using Ray Serve from Anyscale, another open source project. We use Ray for training inside OpenShift AI through KubeRay. Let’s dive into the AI story at #KubeCon this year as Nutanix looks to innovate for #Kubernetes’ future ✨ In this exclusive with Luke Congdon, senior director of product management of #Nutanix, #theCUBE digs into the company’s approach to facilitating #k8s and AI at enterprise scale. “A year and a quarter ago, we came out with what we call a GPT in a box, and it was an initial reference architecture of how we can provide AI based on a lot of Nutanix’s valuable IT assets. We did try a VM form factor and a Kubernetes form factor and we quickly realized that VM is not the right form factor. Now, if you want a database in a VM, we've got that for you. But for scale, for just deploying this, Kubernetes is the way to go,” Congdon shares. “What we've done with this latest announcement is say, ‘We run anywhere you run Kubernetes.’ So, we'd love you to do that on Nutanix, but if you'd rather be on EKS or AKS or GKE, we're going to give you that same software.
