🏟️ The Parent Seat: Lessons My Dad Taught Me About Youth Sports Growing up, my Dad was my biggest fan—but not in the way you’d think... He wasn’t the loudest on the sidelines. He didn’t care about stats, scores, or even if I won. What mattered to him? ✅ Did I give my best effort? ✅ Did I play with integrity? ✅ Did I represent myself, my team, and our family with respect? That perspective stuck with me. And now, as a coach and youth sports advocate, I see just how much those lessons shaped who I am. Here are the biggest takeaways I’ve learned from him—and how they can help other parents show up the right way: 🎯 Check yourself first. My Dad taught me that how you act in the stands reflects your values. Staying calm during tough moments teaches kids how to handle pressure with grace. 🎯 Celebrate the journey. For him, growth mattered more than goals. Give your child the space to build confidence, independence, and life skills through sports. 🎯 Be the example. My Dad always said, “Your kid is watching you.” Whether it’s patience with a ref or how you cheer, show them what good sportsmanship looks like. 🎯 Think, empowerment, before you protect. From the age of 6, 7, 8 yr old - if I had a problem with playing time, I talked to the coach; my Dad would never do it for me. 🎯 Focus on encouragement. His favorite words after a game? “I’m proud of you.” Simple, powerful, and exactly what I needed to hear. 👉 Sports aren’t just games—they’re life lessons in action. How we show up as parents teaches our kids far more than we realize. 📢 Parents, what’s your best tip for staying positive on game day?
