Shorthand reposted this
It's so rewarding to have worked on the design of this newsletter over the last couple of months, and get to really expand on my creativity in graphic design and immersive storytelling using all of the great new features the Shorthand platform has to offer. Getting to finally hit that "publish" button and share key milestones of our Institute and its transformative work at Rutgers University and beyond was such a fulfilling moment. Please click below to read about our brand new uniquely-branded and piloted initiatives and get up to date on our programs and events from the past academic year! #socialjusticescholarship
It is with great pleasure that we share the third edition of our newsletter from the Institute for the Study of Global Racial Justice (ISGRJ). As we enter the final two years of grant-funded activity, I write to introduce new members of the ISGRJ community, update everyone on our continuing programs and initiatives, and share key milestones and events from the past academic year! Owned media, going direct, disintermediating the mainstream news media. Whatever you want to call it, it's a topic that is, or should be, top of mind for every brand right now.
"Going direct" is the new approach to comms. It's a playbook beautifully articulated and promoted by Lulu Cheng Meservey, and practiced to the full by the likes of Elon Musk and Shopify. But arguably, nobody's been more successful at going direct than RELX, one of the top performers on the FTSE 100 over the last 15 years. If you're attending the CorpComms Magazine Corporate Affairs Summit at the London Stock Exchange today, be sure to hear RELX's Paul Abrahams speaking about "Disintermediating the Media". What do you do when the mainstream media doesn't want to talk about you, and your brand isn't one that can engage in the types of social media shenanigans that others can? RELX's owned media presence, built with Shorthand, features stories that are often read by more than twice those of the Financial Times. It's a session you won't want to miss. If this is a subject you care about, please also check out our featured stories page for corporate and internal comms. It looks a million bucks, IMHO, and the selected stories will inspire you to greater heights when it comes to owned media and internal comms. Link in the comments.

Few sectors lean on the power of brand storytelling more than luxury. As Dawn Murden points out, there are lessons for all marketers and publishers in how luxury brands foster connections with their audiences. Read about them here https://lnkd.in/ebD6gwKN

Why are the big content management systems still so bad?
It’s 2024, and you still despise your CMS. I just finished a whistle-stop tour of customers in the US and UK. One thing that surprised me is the level of hate for the CMSs used by our customers. We’ve known for years this is one of the reasons publishers, marketers, communications teams and others look to solutions like Shorthand — but the depth of the frustration, particularly surrounding certain CMSs, still caught me off guard. It seems that even today Shorthand is literally a relief valve for so many teams. If your work is suffering, if *you* are suffering, if you need to release the pent up creativity in your team and reach a higher level, we’d love to help you like we help thousands of iconic and aspiring brands around the world.
