Tip #88 is here - have you heard of "Decentralized Command"? Remote Work Tips Podcast: https://shorturl.at/YCliR This week Tom Lew teaches Ryan Geiger this concept: instead of bottlenecking decisions through one person, let your team own their roles. The Sweetspot Brands director says by trusting each individual to make smart, informed choices, you speed up workflow, build confidence, and reduce micromanagement. The result? Shortform says you'll have a more productive, agile business where everyone feels empowered and projects move forward smoothly. #remotework

Leadership is No Kumbaya! - Sometimes you have to have tough conversations and it's so tempting to delay them. Here Are The Impacts of Avoiding Difficult Conversations: 1. Increased Tension: Unaddressed issues can escalate, leading to greater misunderstandings and resentment. 2. Decreased Trust: Team members may feel undervalued or ignored, eroding trust and collaboration. 3. Stunted Growth: Both personal and organizational growth can be hindered when feedback is not shared. Steps You Can Take To Make Difficult Conversations Easier: 1. Prepare Ahead of Time: Understand the context and desired outcomes. Identify the key points you want to address and anticipate the other person’s perspective. 2. Choose the Right Time and Setting: Select a calm environment where both parties can focus without distractions. Scheduling the conversation in advance allows everyone to prepare mentally. 3. Use “I” Statements: Frame your feelings and perspectives using “I” statements to reduce defensiveness. For example, say “I feel concerned about…” instead of “You always…”. 4. Listen Actively: Prioritize listening over speaking. This demonstrates respect and encourages a two-way dialogue. Ask open-ended questions to invite the other person to share their thoughts. 5. Acknowledge Awkwardness: Recognize that these conversations can be uncomfortable. Acknowledging this can help ease tension and foster a more authentic exchange. 6. Stay Focused on the Issue: Keep the conversation centered on the specific topic at hand, avoiding past grievances or unrelated issues. 7. Collaborate on Solutions: After discussing the issues, work together to find constructive solutions that address both parties’ concerns. 8. Follow Up: After the conversation, check in with each other to ensure that any agreed-upon actions are being implemented and that feelings are still addressed. By embracing these steps, difficult conversations can transform from sources of anxiety into opportunities for growth and understanding. Let’s face these challenges head-on for a healthier (kumbaya) workplace. Agree? Please hit the share button. Follow Africa Ngcobo for me. Image by Shortform
