I'm sure many people watched last night’s presidential debate. I'm sure many people played drinking games, or even debate bingo with friends, family, or colleagues. Of all the things debated, one square was empty on every bingo card, child and school safety. It's deeply disheartening that in the face of another school shooting, this time in an Appalachian high school, the tragic event has gone largely unnoticed by those seeking to lead our country. Child safety, especially within our schools, should be a top priority for any nation that values its future, yet it’s been glaringly absent from the national dialogue. Instead of addressing this chronic issue head-on, our aspiring leaders defaulted to discussions about the economy, immigration, abortion, and the January 6 Capitol riot. Important as these topics may be, how can we, in good conscience, overlook the safety of our children? Not one mention of the need for school safety measures, not one word about protecting the most vulnerable among us. Foreign policy concerns like Russia's war in Ukraine and the Israel-Hamas conflict were front and center as well, and while global security is crucial, shouldn't our focus also be on ensuring the security of our own future? Keeping out children safe? And so, another school shooting fades into the background—just another tragedy forgotten by our political leaders, with no meaningful action taken by any of them. “Condolences” as well as “hopes and prayers” are all we have come to expect from our tax dollars. If this continues, what hope do we have for a safer future? It’s time to demand more from our leaders and prioritize the safety of our children before it's too late.

As politicians send "Hopes and Prayers" and discuss gun control once again, it's clear that little has changed in over 25 years regarding school safety. Parents and children continue to suffer from shootings in US schools, emphasizing the urgent need for accountability. It's time to demand action and funding to upgrade all schools in America to meet DHS security standards. Currently, inadequate funding leaves most schools falling short of these crucial safety measures. Despite budget constraints, politicians swiftly increased security funding for DC offices after a single threat in January 2021, highlighting a concerning priority imbalance. Let's advocate for the safety our children deserve and push for tangible change. Washington's prolonged inaction on this pressing issue must end. It's crucial that our representatives prioritize the safety of our children above all else. Wherever you fall on the debates going on, I think we can all agree that these debates do little to stem the tide of violence that our children face at school while our politicians enjoy safe and secure offices in DC. Reach out to your representatives and demand that they address this issue in a way that makes a difference TODAY. #SchoolSafety #PoliticiansAccountability #ChildrenSafety #DHSStandards #FundingAllocation

Today, a 14-year-old child opened fire in his school, killing two students and two teachers, as well as injuring many more... How do we continue to fail these children? How do we continue to fail these educators? To say that I am frustrated is an understatement. No matter how often I have seen images of children suffering, I am always heartbroken to see new ones. Over the last 18 months, I have also been frustrated as I have fought to make a difference via Shielding Our Future. What have I fought against? Apathy and a fear that acknowledging shortcomings with physical security at schools will result in liability if something happens. Administrators and politicians are burying their heads in the sand. Since February 2022, we have sent $175 billion to Ukraine. If distributed to each state for school security and safety, that would have resulted in $3.5 billion given to each state. For comparison, The House of Representatives currently spends $8 million annually on building security (not including personal security for the representatives). $175 billion dollars evenly distributed across the states would make 437.5 schools PER STATE as safe as the House of Representatives. That's 21,875 schools nationwide that could be as safe as the House of Representatives. When was the last mass shooting at the House of Representatives? When was the last mass shooting at a courthouse? At a hospital? Or a police station?... Do our children deserve less than our politicians do? Do our teachers deserve less than our doctors, nurses, judges, or police officers? When will our politicians stop giving lip service and start acting? When we act and make them. When we tell them that enough is enough, that 25 years with over 400 mass shootings at schools and almost no action from our elected officials is unacceptable. Over the coming days, they will yet again send prayers and debate about gun control. Guns are not the only threat to our children's safety. Prayers without action will not make schools safe. Please act! Write to your political leaders. If you don't know how to message them, contact me, and I will help you. Flood them with the message that you demand more from them and our tax dollars! Share this post! Share this message! It is an election year, and our politicians are not discussing this issue enough—it has been a chronic issue for over 25 years! Please act... Do something... #Safeschools #schoolsafety #saveourchildren #childsafety I have included some images from wchst.com and the press release from President Biden in this post. I know we have all experienced loss on some level, and as I look at this vast sea of veteran tombstones, I am reminded that every sacrifice represented here is an investment in the hope of a better future. Each grave tells the story of a brave soul who fought for the freedoms we hold dear, and it is our duty to honor their legacy by nurturing the next generation. As I observe the young children walking among the graves, placing small American flags beside the tombstones, I am struck by the weight of the responsibility we bear. These children are our future, and it is imperative that we ensure their safety and properly educate them about the past. They must understand the profound significance of the sacrifices made by those who came before them. Teaching our children about the values of courage, honor, and duty will help them grow into responsible and compassionate adults. It is through their eyes that we see the promise of tomorrow, and it is through their hearts that the legacy of our veterans will continue to live on. As we remember the fallen, let us also embrace the hope and potential embodied in our youth. They are the torchbearers of freedom, and with our guidance, they can build a world that honors the sacrifices of the past while striving for a brighter, more peaceful future. Happy Memorial Day.
