  • Day 4 of 12 Days of SE Group: Mountain Planning! In 1958, SE Group was known as Sno.engineering. When Sel Hannah founded the company, we were the first and only consulting firm to focus on the planning, design, and operation of ski areas. Today, we are an internationally recognized innovator and leader in the mountain resort industry. Over the past six decades, we have worked on thousands of mountain resort projects across the globe from Colorado to Japan and New Hampshire to South America. As Claire Humber, Director of Resort Planning, says, “it’s easier to list what resorts SE Group hasn’t worked on.” Mountain Planning is a unique and thrilling career. It's not a specific expertise you learn at a university or college, but one accomplished through applied professions such as engineering, landscape architecture, planning, environmental studies, cartography, and exposure to the industry. As a result, our team of avid skiers and snowboarders applies their passion for snow sports and their professional training to help resorts better serve their clientele. Specializing in assisting ski resorts comprehensively from concept-to-completion, our team of mountain planners are true partners and trusted advisors to our clients. In 2024, our Mountain Planning team worked with ski clients around the world and close to home, such as Deer Valley's East Village Expansion, the continued planning and development of Wasatch Peaks Ranch, Bogus Basin lift and trails projects, Hunter Mountain lift replacements, and many more.

  • Day 2 of 12 Days of SE Group: Community Planning! Our community planning team works with communities to reimagine their future. Our integrated planning and design services identify opportunities for communities to grow and thrive in profound ways. Our work is informed by our national experience but is always rooted in local knowledge and close collaboration with our clients. As a trusted partner, we consider the environmental, social, and economic factors of a project – the whole picture. Our work in community planning is focused on towns and rural cities often surrounded by public lands, four-season resorts, and where access to the outdoors is an economic driver. These areas are often popular destinations for tourists and a desirable home to those who value natural beauty and recreational opportunities. These areas require careful and thoughtful planning to ensure sustainable growth, community members voices are heard, and natural resources are protected. This year we have had the honor of working on Comprehensive Plans for Buena Vista CO, St. Albans Bay Village VT, Steamboat Springs CO, Nederland CO, Townsend TN, Spearfish SD, and Lake Placid/ North Elba NY along with a Housing Needs Assessment for Chester VT, Bylaw Modernization and Land Use updates for Lawernce County SD, Waitsfield VT and Shelburne VT, a Transit-Oriented Development Plan for Ferrisburgh VT, and Wayfinding for Chester VT among other projects! We’re so excited to continue working closely with communities across the country to help bring their vision to life.
