I recently attended the 2nd Annual Black Women In Clinical Research ® Women in Clinical Research in Atlanta. This incredible event brought together powerful women and thought leaders in clinical research, fostering connections, knowledge dissemination and a deep sense of community. As a first-generation immigrant and college graduate, this year’s theme “Breaking Barriers, Building Resilience” deeply resonated with me. I’m grateful for the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals who are passionate about driving meaningful change in the clinical research industry. Thank you to Danielle S. Mitchell and her team for organizing this unforgettable experience!

Full circle moment: Remember when I was fundraising earlier this year? Well, as one of the top fundraisers in the 2024 #WeLead cohort, I got to see the impact of that effort. Yesterday, I spoke on a fundraising panel to the 20 incredible women in the 2025 #WeLead cohort—women my fundraising helped participate free of charge. My contribution to the discussion? Storytelling matters in fundraising. People give to people, not just causes. Thank you to those who gave to mine. And to the #WomenandPoliticsInstitute, thank you for holding space and empowering the next generation of women leaders, and for inviting me back to be apart of that continuous effort.

Your title has nothing to do with your ability to lead. The beauty of leadership lies in the fact that a person does not need a formal title to prove that they are a leader. Instead, people follow leaders because of their values, vision, passion, purpose, inspiration, and many more. It's not about rank, power, or your place on the org chart; it's all about inspiring people to believe in themselves, believe in their gifts, believe in their potential, and to believe in something much greater than their own self-preservation. When you have that type of influence and people choose to follow you voluntarily, you are on the road to becoming a great leader. Our Center for Outreach in Alzheimer’s Aging and Community Health, the nation’s most prominent academic research and outreach institution focused primarily on the impact of Alzheimer’s on African Americans has received a five-year $4.8 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to study Alzheimer’s disease in middle-aged African Americans.
