Many aspiring leaders sabotage their own prospects. What sinks their boat? Poor digital habits. That glance at your phone while with a customer. Enough to break trust. The few seconds checking out a reel while in a business review. Enough to plant doubt about your commitment. The multi-tasking with email during a 1:1. Makes you appear disconnected. Poor digital habits affect your decision making while decreasing resilience. After all, you can't effectively lead others until you can confidently lead yourself! https://lnkd.in/g96WXKmY

Doom spending is peak 2024. It's this phenomenon where people use retail therapy to cope with the anxiety and pessimism due to doomscrolling. Social commerce (you know, when people buy stuff on TikTok, Snap or other platforms) is likely close to 25% of e-commerce now. According to data from Simon-Kucher Gen-Z, which spends the greatest time online showed up big time for large shopping events like Black Friday, Amazon Prime Day. Where did they not show up as much? Shop Small Saturday. How social media companies will use their AI-powered tools to further ratchet up user anxiety is still unknown - but rest assured, they have a shopping retreat waiting to catch you if you need to doom spend!

Brain Rot is the 2024 Word Of The Year. What does it mean? It's defined as the “supposed deterioration of a person’s mental or intellectual state, especially viewed as the result of overconsumption of material (now particularly online content) considered to be trivial or unchallenging” Can you measure Brain Rot? Not really. Can you feel it? Yes. https://lnkd.in/dwtNqwpb

Guess which "solutions" Redditors offered to the OP? Yep. Restrictions, detoxes, app timers and constraints. Just asking someone to "get a hobby" or "use their phone less", is often not sufficient support or guidance. They know that too. The magic is in learning how. Elite athletes and performers know that it's never just 1 thing. It's the routine, the system or the framework that gets you to your goal, consistently. It's the same thing with digital habits.

This will be an interesting experiment by social media companies. Could re-setting your feed algorithm offer rebuild how you engage with these platforms? Without the underlying business model changing (i.e. ads for attention) we're not sure how this leads to different outcomes - but worth tracking! https://lnkd.in/gJczXtKn
Just in time for the New Year — a new recommendations reset for Instagram! This new feature, which will roll out soon, lets you start fresh by allowing you to clear your recommended content across Explore, Reels and Feed. I’m especially excited to see how teens use this new feature — we know their passions and interests are ever-changing and this helps ensure they are engaging with content that’s relevant, makes them feel good, and is age-appropriate. https://lnkd.in/e5fqWQSa

Women, on average, have 13 percent less free time than men. If that free time is spent doomscrolling vs. things like exercise -- they're paying the price in more ways than one. Washington school Superintendent Chris Reykdal has asked districts to create a plan to restrict cellphone use in class by the start of the 2025-26 school year. We continue to remain advocates that any policy of restriction should be complemented by education for both students and parents for how to develop positive relationships with technology. https://lnkd.in/gPp6uvsE
