The Savanna Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization working to lay the groundwork for widespread agroforestry in the Midwest US. We work in collaboration with farmers and scientists to develop perennial food and fodder crops within multifunctional polyculture systems grounded in ecology and inspired by the savanna biome.

Assistance for establishing agroforestry is available for producers in many states through voluntary conservation programs at the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. NRCS helps producers, soil and water conservation districts, and other partners protect and conserve natural resources on private lands throughout the United States. USDA is an equal opportunity provider, employer and lender. Thank you for joining us in Spring Green and Madison, Wisconsin for our Open House and 2024 Perennial Farm Gathering!
To gather in person for the first time in five years at the Perennial Farm Gathering was a special experience for our PFG2024 attendees. In total, 400 of us joined together at the Monona Terrace in Madison, Wisconsin (and live online) in October to share stories from our work in perennial agriculture. Over half of the attendees were farmers, many from Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota. Nonprofits and researcher/educators representing 30 states made up another large part of the audience. The event featured 35 speakers, 20 sessions, 35 Nutshell presenters, and a keynote by Chef Sean Sherman.
