Sacred Heart Schools was nominated Inspiration Corporation's November Volunteer of the Month! This is a partnership that began in spring 1999 and has played a pivotal role in our Service Learning Program. Over the years, students, faculty, staff, and parents have contributed in many different ways and in return have learned about dignity and respect. Most recently, a Sacred Heart team helped prepare and serve a Thanksgiving meal, something that has become a treasured annual tradition on our calendar. Thank you Inspiration Corporation for this honor. We look forward to continuing to work with you!

Today we are happy to support our Community Partner, Ignatian Services Mission Center Food Pantry. Students brought in dollars for the opportunity to wear free dress. Service learning is an important part of the Sacred Heart identity, developing empathy, leadership and civic responsibility. Recent studies have shown that students engaged in service learning exhibit: - Improved problem-solving skills - Higher engagement in school - Increased motivation to succeed academically - Greater levels of self-efficacy and community connection - Cultural literacy - Increased resilience We are grateful to Ignatian Services, a choice pantry affiliated with the Greater Chicago Food Depository, for collaborating with us again this year. It is a partnership that runs deep as our middle schoolers also learn and serve at the pantry on a regular basis. We appreciate this growth opportunity for our students.

Thank you to Lisa Damour, PhD for leading a Sacred Heart Parent Education session last week. Through discussion of her new book 'The Emotional Lives of Teenagers' participants learned the key myths around adolescent emotions, how to effectively manage those emotions, and how they, as parents, can best support their teens. We appreciate the insights shared and, most importantly, the practical application of this knowledge. Many thanks for helping our families navigate these critical years.

‘Out of Uniform Outreach Days’ are one part of a commitment to Service Learning that underpins the Sacred Heart values. Students bring in dollars for the opportunity to wear free dress, in support of one of our Community Partners. Today we support Misericordia Heart of Mercy, an organization that provides a community of care that maximizes potential for persons with mild to profound developmental disabilities. This partnership runs deep. Students visit Misericordia as part of the school service program, while adults from Misericordia return that support here on Sheridan Road. We are grateful to have this opportunity for our students to grow as people, and to know this warm and caring community.
